UN:Me Reveals New Soul Characters and Mind-Bending Gameplay at Gamescom 2026

Date:

Shueisha Games has revealed new details about UN:Me, an upcoming psychological horror adventure centered on four souls trapped inside the body of a young girl. New information presented around gamescom 2026 highlights the game’s unusual soul-selection system, shifting character abilities and unsettling environments ahead of its planned 2026 release.

UN:Me Asks Players to Identify the Body’s True Soul

Developed by historia and published by Shueisha Games, UN:Me is described as a “soul-triage adventure” in which players must determine which of four souls is the legitimate owner of a single body.

At the beginning of the story, all four souls have lost their memories. Despite that uncertainty, each believes she is the body’s rightful owner.

Players explore the game’s unstable world to locate Memory Fragments, which unlock new questions that can be asked during conversations with the souls.

As more memories emerge, players must examine the personalities and histories of the four characters before eventually deciding which soul should remain and which should be “erased.”

Different Souls Can Suddenly Take Control

Exploration becomes more complicated because players do not always control which soul occupies the body.

Individual souls can unexpectedly take over, changing the character’s behavior as well as the player’s available abilities.

Each soul has different traumas and skills. Those differences can alter environmental threats, available actions and even which areas of the game’s labyrinth can be reached.

Soul I and Soul III Receive New Details

Shueisha Games provided additional information about two of the four personalities.

Soul I is highly emotional and tends to say exactly what she is thinking. Her speech and behavior resemble the age she claims to be, while her mood can shift sharply.

Soul III presents a significant contrast. She is thoughtful and deliberate, speaks softly and politely, and maintains a distant personality. She rarely makes eye contact and frequently appears aloof.

Changes between souls also affect the girl’s manner of speaking and attitude, giving players behavioral clues that may help them uncover each character’s identity.

A Hospital Becomes a Labyrinth of the Mind

One of UN:Me’s primary environments initially resembles an ordinary municipal hospital.

As players travel deeper into the building, however, its surroundings become increasingly surreal.

The hospital includes nurses displaying unnatural smiles and patients with flowers in place of their heads, reinforcing the psychological horror elements behind the game’s central mystery.

The environment functions as more than a backdrop. Players must navigate the shifting labyrinth while searching for Memory Fragments and dealing with the individual traumas associated with each soul.

Dialogue Plays a Central Role in the Mystery

Rather than relying exclusively on conventional horror mechanics, UN:Me makes conversations an important part of progression.

Information recovered through exploration gives players additional opportunities to question the four souls. Their answers gradually provide clues about their identities and past experiences.

The ultimate objective is to identify the body’s true owner, meaning player judgment will play a significant role in determining which soul survives.

Playable UN:Me Demo Featured at Gamescom 2026

Gamescom visitors can experience a playable version of UN:Me at the show’s consumer area in Cologne.

Shueisha Games is also offering journalists and creators a deeper look at production, including demonstrations of the game’s facial motion-capture process and previously unseen footage.

An official UN:Me website has also launched with information about the characters and gameplay. It includes an interactive element allowing visitors to share their opinions about which soul they believe should be erased based on the clues released so far.

UN:Me Coming to PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC

UN:Me is scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. Pricing has not yet been announced.

The single-player title will support Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese and carries an IARC 12+ rating.

Shueisha Games is publishing the project, while historia is responsible for planning and development. Takuya Yamanaka is handling planning and scenario work.

By combining psychological horror, exploration and dialogue-driven deduction, UN:Me puts an unusual decision at the center of its story: determine which personality truly belongs to the body and erase the others.
