Kalypso Media and Gaming Minds Studios have released the first gameplay trailer for Tropico 7, confirming that the next installment in the long-running strategy and city-building series will launch on January 28, 2027. The game introduces terraforming, expanded political systems, larger islands and greater control over military forces while retaining the franchise’s satirical approach to government.
Tropico 7 Release Date Confirmed
Tropico 7 will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. PC players will be able to access the game through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC.
The title will also be available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch.
The gameplay trailer initially keeps the release date hidden as part of the series’ familiar El Presidente humor.
“Some information is not given. It is earned. Those who wish to know the future of Tropico… must watch, and obey,” El Prez says in the announcement.
Terraforming Gives Players More Control Over Islands
One of the most significant additions is a new terraforming system, allowing players to reshape Tropico’s geography instead of simply building around existing terrain.
Players will be able to remove mountains, create beaches and even construct entirely new islands. The feature should provide greater freedom when planning cities, industries and transportation networks.
Curved Roads and Roundabouts Expand City Building
Tropico 7 also introduces new construction options, including curved roads and roundabouts.
Buildings can be positioned to take advantage of synergy effects, while unused areas can be converted into parks with customizable sizes.
The game will feature some of the largest islands in the series, along with 10 additional scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator for additional replayability.
Political Decisions Become More Dynamic
Politics will receive a substantial overhaul.
The constitution system has been expanded, while available edicts can dynamically change depending on El Presidente’s political position. A new political matrix will further influence how players manage competing interests.
Different factions can now be summoned to a council, creating direct opportunities to negotiate with political groups, reject their demands or reach agreements that benefit the government.
Elections and election speeches return, alongside foreign-policy decisions and the series’ familiar ability to acquire — or “relocate” — famous landmarks.
Campaign Introduces New Rival Victoria Guerra
Tropico 7’s campaign will unfold across five maps and continue the story of El Presidente and his longtime assistant Penultimo.
This time, the pair will face a new adversary named Victoria Guerra.
The expanded islands and political mechanics are intended to give players more options for shaping the direction of their nation, whether they favor economic development, public satisfaction or authoritarian control.
Military System Offers More Direct Control
Military gameplay is also being redesigned.
The new system provides greater direct control over military units, allowing players to respond more actively to rebels and foreign threats.
The change adds another layer to the traditional Tropico formula, which has historically focused heavily on balancing economic management, political factions and international relations.
El Presidente Customization Returns
Players will once again be able to customize El Presidente and the presidential palace, with additional appearance options available in the new installment.
