Sesame Street: Friends & Fun is giving families their first detailed look at its kid-focused gameplay ahead of an October launch. Outright Games, working with Sesame Workshop, has released a new gameplay trailer highlighting familiar Sesame Street characters, educational activities, character customization and local cooperative play.
Sesame Street: Friends & Fun Launches October 9
The narrative adventure is scheduled to launch October 9, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Designed primarily for preschool-age players and families, the game allows children to create a character, move into Sesame Street and help its residents prepare for the Big Block Party, a neighborhood-wide celebration that drives the game’s story.
The newly released trailer provides a closer look at how players will explore the neighborhood, interact with characters and complete activities as preparations for the event continue.
Elmo, Cookie Monster and Big Bird Join the Adventure
Several of the children’s franchise’s best-known characters will appear throughout Sesame Street: Friends & Fun.
Players will encounter Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and Tango, with different characters introducing activities tied to their personalities and roles within the Sesame Street world.
More Than 50 Activities and Mini-Games
The game will feature more than 50 story activities and mini-games. Examples shown or described include cooking alongside Cookie Monster, assisting Abby Cadabby with magical tasks and helping clean up areas around the neighborhood.
Rather than focusing on competition, the activities are designed around creativity, cooperation, problem-solving and learning. The approach reflects the educational focus that has defined Sesame Street programming for generations of children in the United States.
Players will also be encouraged to meet characters and help neighbors while progressing through the larger story surrounding the Big Block Party.
The Street Serves as a Central Gameplay Hub
The trailer introduces The Street, the first major location revealed for the game.
Serving as a central hub, the area includes recognizable neighborhood locations such as the Community Garden, Bandstand and Farm. Players will be able to move between these spaces while participating in activities and interacting with Sesame Street residents.
The Street will not be the game’s only environment. Additional locations inspired by the Sesame Street universe are expected to be revealed closer to the October release.
Customization Lets Children Create Their Own Character
Sesame Street: Friends & Fun also includes customization options intended to give younger players more control over their experience.
Children can create and customize their own character as well as personalize their in-game home. These features are integrated into an experience built around exploration and interactive storytelling rather than complex gameplay systems.
Outright Games and Sesame Workshop say the game has been developed specifically with younger audiences in mind, featuring intuitive controls and positive reinforcement throughout the adventure.
Two-Player Local Co-Op Supports Family Play
Players can experience the game alone or use its two-player local cooperative mode.
The local co-op option allows two people in the same household to play together, potentially making the title accessible for parents, siblings and other family members who want to participate alongside younger children.
The combination of straightforward controls, educational activities and cooperative gameplay positions the title as a family-oriented alternative to more mechanically demanding console games.
Sesame Street Expands Into a New Interactive Adventure
Sesame Street has maintained a prominent place in American children’s entertainment and education since its television debut in 1969. The franchise has expanded beyond television over the decades through books, toys, digital content and interactive experiences.
Sesame Street: Friends & Fun continues that expansion by translating the familiar neighborhood into a modern console and PC adventure while retaining an emphasis on learning, friendship and cooperation.
With its October 9 release approaching, the new gameplay trailer provides families with a clearer picture of the game’s activities, environments and playable features. Sesame Street: Friends & Fun will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
