Culdcept BEGINS, the first new entry in the card-and-board strategy series in more than a decade, is now available as a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition, with worldwide shipping beginning September 17.
Clear River Games and Neos Corporation, a subsidiary of Tecmira Holdings, are offering Standard and Steelbook editions of the physical release. The Switch 2 edition is also compatible with the original Nintendo Switch.
Culdcept BEGINS Physical Editions Arrive for Switch 2
The physical launch follows the game’s July 2026 release. According to the companies, combined digital and physical sales of Culdcept BEGINS have surpassed 100,000 units worldwide.
The Standard Edition carries a suggested retail price of $54.99 in the United States and €49.99 in Europe. It includes a physical copy with a reversible cover and a 32-page booklet.
The booklet features a game guide, story introduction, history of the franchise, character information, beginner strategy tips and artwork.
The Steelbook Edition is priced at $89.99 in the U.S. and €79.99 in Europe. It contains everything from the Standard Edition along with a themed slip-lid box, Steelbook case, 10 creature art cards and the original soundtrack on CD.
Card Strategy Meets Dice-Based Board Gameplay
Culdcept BEGINS continues the franchise’s combination of collectible card-game strategy and traditional board-game mechanics.
Players roll dice to move around a board while using cards to establish and expand territory. Rivals can be charged tolls for entering controlled spaces, while players can also attempt to seize opposing territory through battles.
More Than 400 Cards Support Different Strategies
The game contains more than 400 cards, allowing players to construct decks around different tactics and combinations.
Creature Cards summon characters that can expand a player’s territory or attack land controlled by opponents. Creatures are divided among five attributes and feature individual abilities.
Item Cards support creatures during combat. In addition to increasing attack and defense values, their specialized abilities can change the outcome of battles.
Spell Cards influence the broader flow of a match and can be used to pressure opponents or create significant strategic shifts.
The combination of customizable decks, board positioning and dice rolls means players must balance planned strategies against an element of chance.
Culdcept BEGINS Introduces Kamru and the Royal Cept Academy
The story centers on the Book of Creation, a powerful tome created by the goddess Culdra. Fragments of the book exist as mystical tablets called Culds, while individuals capable of wielding them are known as Cepters.
Cepters gather at the Royal Cept Academy to develop their abilities. The story follows Kamru, a talented young boy selected to join the kingdom’s Royal Cepter Guard Regiment.
His journey unfolds against a conflict threatening the continent, with Kamru developing his abilities as a Cepter while moving toward what the developers describe as a true awakening.
Solo, Versus and Online Modes Included
Players can experience Culdcept BEGINS alone or compete against other players.
Versus Mode allows players to battle AI-controlled opponents, providing a way to practice deck strategies before entering online competition.
Online Mode supports matches against players worldwide, while Quick Match is designed to simplify the process of finding an opponent.
