The Regreening Demo Launches on Steam Ahead of October Steam Next Fest

Date:

A deserted world is getting another chance to grow in The Regreening, a cozy simulation game centered on restoring ecosystems, recycling abandoned materials and reconnecting with nature. Developer Positive Impact Games and publisher ByteRockers’ Games have released a playable Steam demo ahead of the game’s appearance at Steam Next Fest in October.

The nature-restoration game has already attracted more than 55,000 Steam wishlists, while thousands of players have participated in playtests that helped shape its development.

The Regreening Demo Is Now Available on Steam

The Regreening is described as a “soilpunk fairytale” in which players work to transform a deserted environment into a thriving natural world.

Players take control of Viri and grow plants to establish new ecosystems, restore animal habitats and gradually encourage wildlife to return.

Rather than focusing on competition or strict objectives, the game emphasizes environmental recovery at a relaxed pace. There are no timers or other forms of time pressure, allowing players to determine how quickly they want to develop their surroundings.

The newly released demo provides an early look at those systems before The Regreening participates in October’s Steam Next Fest.

More Than 7,300 Players Participated in Playtests

Community feedback has played a significant role in the game’s development.

Positive Impact Games conducted a series of dedicated playtests involving more than 7,300 participants. According to the studio, feedback from those sessions helped the developers identify successful elements, refine mechanics and improve the experience of restoring the game’s world.

Interest has continued to grow ahead of the demo, with The Regreening surpassing 55,000 wishlists on Steam.

Players Restore Ecosystems Through Plants and Wildlife

Plant cultivation serves as one of the game’s central mechanics.

Players discover seeds, determine which animal habitats they want to restore and experiment with plant synergies. These systems can be used to develop living biomes based on the player’s preferred approach.

As the environment recovers, wildlife gradually returns to the world.

Flowers and berries can also be harvested and used in other locations or given as gifts to animals and other characters.

Recycling Turns Abandoned Junk Into Useful Materials

Environmental restoration extends beyond planting.

Players can clean up abandoned materials scattered throughout the world and convert the recovered resources into new items through an upcycling system.

Those materials can be transformed into decorations for the player’s home or practical equipment, including watering systems that support plant growth.

The combination of recycling, crafting and ecosystem management reinforces the game’s broader environmental theme.

Baltic Folklore Inspires The Regreening’s Spirits

The game’s fantasy elements draw inspiration from Baltic folklore.

During their journey, players encounter ancient nature spirits that can provide powerful abilities. Helping these mythical characters — and sometimes offering them particular objects — can unlock benefits that assist with environmental restoration.

The folklore elements are woven into a world designed around nature, wildlife and gradual recovery rather than combat or high-pressure challenges.

A Stress-Free Approach to Cozy Simulation Games

Positive Impact Games is designing The Regreening specifically around a low-pressure style of play.

There are no timers forcing players to complete objectives within a set period. Instead, each action contributes gradually to restoring the environment.

The presentation includes adaptive music and forest sounds described as ASMR-like, supporting the game’s relaxed atmosphere while players plant, craft, explore and interact with wildlife.

The central question is whether players can transform the abandoned landscape into a thriving home again.

Steam Next Fest Appearance Set for October

The Steam demo provides the first broader opportunity to experience the game’s combination of ecosystem restoration, upcycling, crafting and folklore-inspired storytelling.

Positive Impact Games is developing The Regreening, with ByteRockers’ Games serving as publisher. The demo will also be part of Steam Next Fest in October 2026.

With more than 55,000 Steam wishlists and feedback from over 7,300 playtest participants already contributing to development, The Regreening is moving toward its next stage with a playable introduction to its nature-focused, stress-free world.
