Burn With Me Sets October 12 Steam Release for Supernatural Deck-Burning Adventure

Date:

Independent developer Nozomu Games has announced that Burn With Me, a narrative-focused deckbuilding game combining supernatural horror with strategic card sacrifice, will launch for PC via Steam on October 12. The game introduces what its creators describe as a “deck-burner” approach, requiring players to destroy their own cards to gain powerful abilities while managing the long-term consequences.

Developed around themes of obsession, sacrifice and forbidden rituals, Burn With Me blends card-based strategy with a story set inside an occult university.

Burn With Me Turns Card Destruction Into a Core Strategy

Unlike traditional deckbuilding games, where players generally seek to preserve and strengthen useful cards, Burn With Me encourages players to deliberately sacrifice valuable parts of their deck.

Burning cards can trigger powerful effects capable of changing the outcome of an encounter. The tradeoff is permanent: sacrificing too many resources can leave players without the tools they need later.

The system creates a continuous risk-versus-reward calculation, forcing players to decide whether immediate power is worth weakening their future options.

That gameplay mechanic also reflects the game’s broader narrative, where characters repeatedly face situations in which achieving something they desire requires giving up something else.

Six Chapters Explore Different Characters and Mechanics

The story takes place at an occult university, where a group of students becomes involved in ancient rituals under the influence of an enigmatic teacher consumed by obsession.

As the students confront their desires, fears and ambitions, players must determine whether those obsessions can be controlled or will ultimately consume them.

Burn With Me is structured across six handcrafted chapters. Each chapter introduces its own characters, gameplay mechanics, cards, bosses and emotional themes, creating different strategic challenges as the narrative progresses.

Hand-Drawn Artwork Meets Live-Action Horror

The game’s visual presentation combines traditional illustration with live-action footage.

Narrative designer and artist Eva Manuilovich created the hand-drawn artwork used throughout the game. The illustrated environments and characters are contrasted by the mysterious entity known as the Hand, which appears through live-action sequences.

The combination is intended to reinforce the game’s surreal atmosphere while distinguishing supernatural elements from its illustrated world.

Its broader aesthetic draws inspiration from occult mysteries, psychological horror and jazz, complementing a story focused on characters confronting both literal and personal demons.

Burn With Me Grew From a Ludum Dare Prototype

The project began during Ludum Dare 55, a game development competition in which creators build games within a limited period.

According to the developer, the original Burn With Me prototype finished within the competition’s top 1%. Since then, more than 20,000 players have tried the prototype.

The project also received praise from Daniel Mullins, creator of Inscryption, a game known for combining card mechanics with unconventional horror storytelling.

Following the prototype’s reception, Nozomu Games expanded the concept into a full commercial release.

Burn With Me Features Strategic Sacrifice and Psychological Horror

The finished game centers on several interconnected elements, including strategic card burning, supernatural storytelling and chapter-specific mechanics.

Players will encounter six chapters featuring distinct bosses and cards while uncovering a larger narrative about forbidden rituals and the consequences of obsession. Individual characters also face personal fears and desires that contribute to the game’s psychological themes.

Because cards function as both strategic resources and potential sacrifices, every decision can affect how much flexibility remains later in a run.

The game also includes a combination of hand-drawn environments and surreal live-action sequences designed to strengthen its unsettling presentation.

Burn With Me Launches on Steam October 12

Burn With Me will launch for PC through Steam on October 12. A playable demo is currently available, and players can add the game to their Steam wishlists ahead of release.

For Nozomu Games, the commercial launch marks the culmination of a project that began as a game-jam prototype before developing into a six-chapter supernatural deckbuilding adventure.

By tying card sacrifice directly to its story of obsession and consequences, Burn With Me aims to make each strategic decision part of both the gameplay challenge and the psychological horror at the center of its narrative.
