Shapeshifting Indie Adventure Debuts New Trailer During MIX Summer Game Showcase

Independent Austrian developer Everflux Games has unveiled a new trailer for “Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens,” confirming the fantasy action-adventure title will launch on PC via Steam in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The announcement was made during The MIX Summer Game Showcase 2026, where the studio also highlighted updated gameplay footage showcasing the game’s shapeshifting mechanics, exploration systems and combat features.

A free playable demo is currently available on Steam following a recent update timed to coincide with Steam Next Fest, Valve’s major digital event focused on upcoming indie games and demos.

Players Transform Between Human and Animal Forms

“Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens” follows Venya, a young heroine gifted with magical powers and the ability to transform into three animal forms: a wolf, a raccoon and a raven.

Each transformation offers unique movement abilities and combat styles designed to help players explore different parts of the game’s world and overcome environmental obstacles.

According to the developer, mastering all four forms — including Venya’s human form — is central to both combat and exploration throughout the adventure.

The newly released trailer provides a closer look at how shapeshifting impacts traversal, puzzle-solving and battles against corrupted enemies threatening the world of Eden.

Story Centers on Healing a Corrupted World

Set in a hand-crafted fantasy environment, the game tasks players with restoring balance to a once-peaceful land overtaken by dark creatures and corruption.

As Venya journeys through Eden, players uncover the history of her people while learning new magical abilities tied to her transformations.

The game also introduces meditation-focused progression mechanics. Sacred locations scattered throughout the world allow Venya to reflect and gain inner peace, which ties directly into the game’s broader themes of healing and personal growth.

After clearing enemies and defeating area bosses, corrupted regions are visually restored, transforming damaged environments back into vibrant landscapes.

That environmental restoration system appears to play a major role in the game’s atmosphere and long-term progression.

Combat and Exploration Emphasize Combo-Based Gameplay

“Edenfall” combines action-adventure gameplay with combo-focused combat systems that encourage players to chain attacks across different forms.

The developers say players can unlock additional abilities and combat combinations through magical crystals found throughout the world.

Key Gameplay Features

The studio highlighted several core gameplay elements planned for the full release:

Four Distinct Playable Forms

Players can seamlessly shift between human, wolf, raccoon and raven forms, each featuring unique traversal and combat mechanics.

Combo-Driven Combat

Combat emphasizes chaining attacks and abilities between forms to create stronger combinations and more dynamic battles.

Exploration and Customization

Side quests, collectible upgrades and unlockable customization features are designed to encourage exploration and replayability.

Environmental Restoration

Players cleanse corruption from the world and witness visual transformations as damaged regions are restored to life.

Solo Developer Brings Architectural Background to Game Design

“Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens” is the debut project from Laurenz Baumgartner, the solo developer behind Everflux Games.

Before transitioning into game development, Baumgartner worked as an architect and specialized in architectural visualization, experience that appears reflected in the game’s detailed environmental design and atmospheric world-building.

The project joins a growing number of independently developed fantasy action games that blend stylized visuals, exploration mechanics and emotionally driven storytelling.

As indie developers continue finding success through platforms like Steam and digital showcase events, smaller studios increasingly compete by focusing on distinctive gameplay mechanics and highly crafted artistic identities.

With its shapeshifting systems, environmental storytelling and restorative fantasy themes, “Edenfall: Legacy of the First Wardens” is positioning itself as one of the upcoming indie action-adventure titles to watch ahead of its late 2026 release.

The game is scheduled to launch for PC via Steam in Q4 2026, with the free demo available now.
