Flipping Is Hard Launches October 16 on Steam After Demo Attracts Over 100,000 Players

Date:

Lithuanian independent developer Elegant Horse Studios has announced that its physics-based platformer Flipping Is Hard will launch on October 16, 2026, for PC through Steam. Priced at $14.99, the game combines precision platforming, challenging physics mechanics, and online cooperative gameplay supporting up to 16 players. The upcoming release follows a demo that attracted more than 100,000 players.

The game introduces an unusual protagonist: a discarded brick phone attempting to climb a towering landscape of abandoned objects. Players can tackle the journey alone or work with friends to overcome increasingly difficult obstacles.

Flipping Is Hard Brings Physics-Based Platforming to Steam

In Flipping Is Hard, players control Flippy, a Flippia brick phone that has been thrown into the trash. Its former owner, Jeff, is stranded at the top of the Trashlands, a massive structure made from forgotten toys, discarded electronics, and childhood memorabilia.

Unlike traditional platforming characters, Flippy cannot walk or run. Instead, players must move by flipping the phone end-over-end, using precise timing and momentum to navigate obstacles.

The journey spans 10 levels, each introducing new environmental hazards and increasingly complicated challenges.

Players travel through unusual locations, including storm drains, candy-covered hills, neon grids, and refrigerators, while attempting to reach the top of the Trashlands.

Along the way, Flippy encounters eccentric characters, including a foul-mouthed Tamagotchi, an anarchist gummy bear, a gingerbread man working as a rave DJ, and an alien from a canceled video game.

Although a friendly narrator provides guidance, the environment gradually reveals a more mysterious side as players discover that the Trashlands may be more than a random collection of discarded objects.

Two Difficulty Modes Offer Different Platforming Experiences

Elegant Horse Studios has designed Flipping Is Hard around two distinct gameplay modes, allowing players to choose between a more accessible experience and a demanding precision-platforming challenge.

Flipping Is Chill Offers a More Accessible Adventure

The Flipping Is Chill mode is designed to provide a less punishing experience, with an estimated completion time of approximately five hours.

This option allows players to explore the environments, encounter characters, and experience the game’s story without the same level of difficulty associated with its harder mode.

Flipping Is Hard Tests Timing and Precision

The more challenging Flipping Is Hard mode is expected to take eight hours or longer for many players.

According to the developer, the average first-time playthrough is targeted at approximately eight hours, although completion times will vary considerably depending on individual skill.

Experienced players may progress more quickly, while newcomers could spend additional time mastering the movement mechanics.

Because the game relies heavily on physics and precision, a single poorly timed flip can result in significant lost progress.

Despite its demanding gameplay, the developer confirmed that the game features a complete ending.

Online Co-Op Supports Up to 16 Players

One of the game’s major features is its online multiplayer mode, which allows as many as 16 players to attempt the climb together.

While the single-player experience focuses on individual precision and persistence, cooperative gameplay introduces additional opportunities for teamwork, unexpected mistakes, and chaotic interactions.

Players can communicate through proximity-based voice chat, allowing conversations to reflect their positions within the game world.

Teamwork Tools Add New Multiplayer Mechanics

The cooperative mode includes several tools intended to help players navigate difficult sections.

These include the Help Beam, teleporting Microwaves, and Pings, which can assist with coordination and movement during the climb.

However, playing together does not necessarily make every obstacle easier. Players can accidentally interfere with one another, creating unpredictable situations as they attempt to overcome the same challenges.

The combination of cooperative mechanics and physics-based movement also makes the game suitable for multiplayer streaming and content creation.

Collectibles, Retro Mini-Games, and Customization Add Replay Value

Beyond its central climbing mechanics, Flipping Is Hard includes optional activities and collectible rewards.

Players can gather coins, unlock achievements, complete challenges, and obtain different phone skins to customize Flippy’s appearance.

The game also features retro-inspired mini-games, including Fnake, Floppy Road, and Flippy Bird.

These additions provide activities outside the main platforming challenges and give players additional objectives to pursue during their journey.

The mixture of collectibles, customization options, and different difficulty settings is intended to encourage repeated playthroughs.

Elegant Horse Studios Continues Its Focus on Challenging Indie Games

Flipping Is Hard is developed by Elegant Horse Studios, an independent game developer based in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The studio describes its approach as creating “cozy-rage games,” combining colorful, approachable visuals with gameplay that demands patience and precision.

Its previous projects include Sheep Sweep and Driving Is Hard.

The upcoming release continues that design philosophy, pairing an unconventional protagonist and humorous environments with demanding movement mechanics.

Flipping Is Hard Arrives on Steam October 16

Flipping Is Hard is scheduled to launch on October 16, 2026, for Windows PC through Steam, with a listed price of $14.99.

Following a demo that drew more than 100,000 players, the full release will introduce 10 levels, two difficulty modes, retro mini-games, collectibles, and online cooperative play for up to 16 participants.

With its unusual brick-phone protagonist, physics-driven challenges, and multiplayer features, Flipping Is Hard aims to offer both a demanding solo platforming experience and a more unpredictable cooperative adventure.
