Tower Tactics II Launches in Steam Early Access With Expanded Deckbuilding and Tower Defense Gameplay

Date:

Developer asraworks and publisher Assemble Entertainment have released Tower Tactics II in Steam Early Access for PC, bringing a new chapter to the roguelike strategy series. Launched on October 8, 2026, the sequel combines tower defense mechanics with card-based strategy, introducing additional playable characters, expanded customization options, and new challenges.

Building on the foundation of Tower Tactics: Liberation, the game challenges players to defend against increasingly difficult enemy waves while constructing powerful decks, upgrading defensive structures, and experimenting with tactical combinations.

Tower Tactics II Expands Roguelike Deckbuilding and Tower Defense

The sequel introduces a new conflict involving the Sal’koth, a returning enemy faction threatening the universe. Players follow a new generation of tactical heroes guided by Kaya as they develop their abilities, complete quests, and confront increasingly dangerous opponents.

The story centers on stopping the Sal’koth before their campaign plunges the universe into darkness. As players progress, they uncover additional details about the conflict while strengthening their defensive capabilities.

Combat combines traditional tower defense mechanics with roguelike deckbuilding. Rather than relying exclusively on fixed defensive structures, players use collectible cards to construct and improve defenses, launch attacks, manipulate battlefield conditions, and activate combinations designed to counter enemy waves.

The system encourages experimentation, with different card combinations and strategic decisions influencing the outcome of each encounter.

More Than 190 Cards and 150 Trinkets Expand Strategic Options

One of the major additions in Tower Tactics II is its expanded collection of cards, equipment, and customization systems.

According to the developers, the Early Access release includes more than 190 cards, 150 trinkets, and five playable characters. The sequel also introduces new enemies, maps, battlefield tiles, decks, and game modes.

Customizable Decks and Starting Equipment

Players can adjust their strategies before beginning each run by selecting starting cards and trinkets. These choices determine the tools available during the opening stages and can influence how a particular build develops.

The revamped Sanctuary system provides additional progression opportunities, allowing players to strengthen their capabilities as they advance through the game.

This approach gives players greater control over their preferred strategies while maintaining the unpredictability associated with roguelike gameplay.

Hero Cards and New Combat Mechanics

The sequel introduces Hero Cards, which provide powerful effects that can change the course of battles.

Additional card items, status effects, and enemy abilities increase the number of tactical decisions players must consider during combat.

Successful runs depend on balancing defensive construction, offensive abilities, and resource management while responding to changing battlefield conditions.

Steam Workshop Support Introduces Player-Created Maps

Beyond its expanded combat systems, Tower Tactics II includes tools for creating and sharing custom maps.

Players can design their own battlefields and distribute them through Steam Workshop, allowing other members of the community to download and attempt their challenges.

The feature adds a community-driven component to the game, potentially extending its replayability beyond the maps and scenarios included by the developers.

Custom map support also allows players to experiment with different battlefield layouts and challenge others to develop effective defensive strategies.

Controller Support and Steam Deck Compatibility

The Early Access version includes full controller support and Steam Deck compatibility.

These features provide additional ways to play, particularly for PC gamers who prefer handheld gaming or controller-based input.

The developers have also emphasized replayability, describing the game as offering more than 100 hours of tactical content through its various cards, characters, maps, and strategic combinations.

Tower Tactics II Targets Fans of Strategy and Roguelike Games

With its combination of card-based progression and defensive combat, Tower Tactics II is positioned for players familiar with games such as Slay the Spire, Emberward, and Rogue Tower.

Like those titles, the sequel emphasizes strategic experimentation and adapting to unpredictable encounters.

However, its central gameplay remains focused on defending against waves of enemies through carefully planned tower placements and card combinations.

The combination of different characters, starting configurations, and battlefield challenges is intended to encourage multiple playthroughs.

Assemble Entertainment Continues Its Indie Publishing Expansion

Tower Tactics II is published by Germany-based independent publisher Assemble Entertainment, which has released more than 50 games since 2016.

The company’s catalog includes Sticky Business, Roadwarden, Decktamer, Paddle Paddle Paddle, Grind Survivors, and the Endzone franchise.

Assemble Entertainment works across several genres, including strategy, horror, roguelike, and cozy games, supporting independent developers in bringing their projects to market.

The release of Tower Tactics II adds another strategy-focused title to the publisher’s portfolio.

Tower Tactics II Is Now Available on Steam Early Access

Tower Tactics II entered Steam Early Access on October 8, 2026, for PC.

The release introduces expanded deckbuilding systems, five playable characters, new combat mechanics, and Steam Workshop integration while continuing the conflict against the Sal’koth.

For fans of the original game and players interested in tactical roguelikes, the sequel offers a broader selection of strategic tools and challenges, with community-created maps providing additional opportunities for experimentation.
