Surprisingly, a somewhat older FritzBox model still receives the latest FritzOS update, as AVM recently announced. Here we summarize what router it is and what improvements the latest version brings.
The FritzBox 7490 appeared in 2013 and is still used by many users today. The manufacturer AVM has now indicated that there could be an update for the device despite its old age. This is probably FritzOS 7.50.
Whether this will actually happen is not 100 percent confirmed yet. Development of the 7490 is still in progress. One of the most important innovations in FritzOS 7.50 is the implementation of Wireguard. This makes it possible to use VPN solutions from third-party providers.

Update for old FritzBox: users can expect this
Also, the new operating system comes with a wide range of other improvements. With a WiFi mesh, both the 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz frequency band are now available. There are also improvements that increase the speed on said network.
Plus, you can now use your own phone book as a positive list. All other calls can be blocked if you wish. It is not yet known when users can expect a corresponding update.
