Hacker Reports Google Play Store Successfully Installed On Japanese Win 11 Beta-Engadget

Microsoft released the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) for Windows 11 Insiders (equivalent to the beta version for developers) a few days ago.Released.. As a result, Android apps are now available in the Win 11 beta in the US, but at the time of writing, only about 50 titles are accessible from the Amazon Appstore.

The Google Play Store offers the most abundant Android apps, but WSA doesn’t have the Google Play services required to run most of the apps on the Google Play Store, so it’s not available.

However, hackers have reportedly solved this problem and successfully installed Google Play Services including the store on Windows 11.

Windows hacker ADeltaX shares an image on Twitter showing that he was able to install the Google Play Store on Windows 11.

On top of that, we’ve posted the necessary files and procedures on GitHub, but so far it seems like the bar is quite high for non-technical users.

The current runbook says (assuming you are a US user):

  • Download MSIXBUNDLE (Download msixbundle, Package ID: 9P3395VX91NR using rg-adguard store)

  • Install WSL2 (ubuntu / debian, may work with other distributions)

  • Install unzip lzip.

  • Download GAPPS PICO from OPENG APPS (x86_64, 11, PICO)

  • Extract msixbundle, extract msix (file) to a folder, (appxmetadata, appxblockmap, appxsignature, [content_types]) It is deleted.

  • Copy the images (system.img, system_ext.img, product.img, vendor.img) to #images.

  • Copy (gapps pico zip) into #gapps.

  • Edit and configure the root folder.

  • I will do it.

  • Copy IMAGES to the extracted msix folder from (#images folder).

  • Open POWERSHELL (NOT CORE) as ADMIN and run Add-AppxPackage -Register PATH_TO_EXTRACTED_MSIX AppxManifest.xml.

  • Run wsa with gapps.

  • This solved the login problem.

  • Copy the (kernel file) from the (misc folder) in the extracted MSIX folder to the (Tools folder).

  • Now you can use su with ADB SHELL. Start ADB SHELL, type su, then type setenforce 0. Now you can log in.

It seems like a lot of work, but ADeltaX promises to revise the manual in the near future to make it easier to understand.

First of all, it appears that WSA will be deployed in Japan, as well as the United States, for a time. I’d like to keep an eye out for Nariyuki, whether MS blocks this loophole or pretends not to see it.
