The long wait for the next League of Legends World Cup is almost over, dear League of Legends esports fans! The 2021 World Cup will start tomorrow, Tuesday, October 5, and the play-in phase will start again, in which a total of ten teams, divided into two groups, will fight for the four remaining places in the group phase of the tournament.

There are already twelve seeded organizations awaiting their own start to the tournament, which won’t kick off until October 11, exactly one week from now. Before that, we will see hot duels between the Play-In Stage participants in a total of five days, who will meet from tomorrow and then until Saturday and work on the final constellation of the group.

The first official match of the 2021 World Cup

The first official match of the 2021 World Cup will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, October 5 at 1 p.m. The corresponding pair is Hanwha Life Esports (before April 2018 “ROX Tigers”, South Korea) against LNG Esports (Li-Ning Gaming, before May 2019 “Snake Esports”, China). These two Play-In Stage Group A participants will be joined by Infinity Esports (South America, Costa Rica / Mexico, LLA), PEACE (Australia, LCO) and RED Canids (formerly INTZ Red, CBLoL, Brazil).

However, in Group B of the Play-In stage, the following five teams will face off in the coming days:

  • Beyond games (Taiwan / PCS)
  • Cloud9 (Nordamerika / LCS)
  • Unicorns of Love (Russland / CIS / LCL)

The 2021 World Cup will be played with League of Legends patch 11.19, so the two newest champions, Akshan and Vex, will not be available yet. Additionally, the guaranteed prize pool for the 2021 World Cup is $ 2,225,000. Additionally, there are proportional sums of Worlds related store content sales in the Riot Games client. That also means the 2021 World Cup winner will take home at least $ 489,500. The two theoretically qualified teams from Vietnam, which have already missed the Worlds 2020 and MSI 2021 competitions due to travel restrictions, cannot participate in the World Cup.
