Apple just that Major macOS updates with Big Sur.. Downloads are often slow when large files and many users try to get the software at the same time, but this year the download times are particularly slow and often seem to fail. On the other hand, Apple’s Developer website seems to be down as well as iMessage, affecting the performance of macOS Catalina.
Update: 1:10 PM PT: Apple Confirmed the problem When I download macOS Big Sur on the system status page, “Users may not be able to download macOS software updates to their Mac computers. This issue is currently under investigation.”
Apple has also added iMessage to its list of services that have seen outages.

macOS 11 Big Sur is about 12GB in size and will take some time to download. However, even users with fast to very fast internet services can sometimes get a quote of 12 hours or more up to 7 days. This indicates a problem that is likely to be on Apple’s side.
At the same time, it seems that Apple’s Developer website is inaccessible. This may be related to the very slow pace of downloads for macOS Big Sur.
