Mario Kart fans? Play the game for real

A true cultural phenomenon, Super Mario Kart has been one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises since its release in 1992 on the Super NES. Since then, dozens of games have been played on all the consoles of the Japanese manufacturer. Opus on different home consoles (Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U…) but also in portable mode (Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and 3DS…).

The license will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year and all fans are hoping that the occasion is entitled to a Mario Kart 9 that has been desperately awaited for 7 years. In the meantime, you can go to Tours in Indre-et-Loire or Nantes in Loire-Atlantique to take part in a real Mario Kart race.

BattleKart: Mario Kart… Really!

It is one of the emblematic attractions of the park. Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios in Japan. From now on, you don’t have to take such a long trip to get in your racing car and fight on the track.
In the city of Tours (Indre-et-Loire) or Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), you can participate in a real Mario Kart race with a concept invented in Belgium and imported for the first time in France. Up to twelve players compete on an augmented reality track.

There are several game modes available, such as the classic Battlerace, which allows players to compete in a race with bonuses that they will need to collect in order to go faster or slow down opponents. Traps are activated with the push of a button on the steering wheel that is connected to a tablet.

Set BattleKart, this hub offers several game modes in addition to Battlerace, such as:

  • Battlecolor mode that allows players to compete on a grid track to cover the ground with their color.
  • Battlesnake mode that allows players to collect colored balls on the track to become the longest snake in the final gong.
  • The Battlefoot mode, largely inspired by Rocket League that allows you to play soccer with a virtual ball that you must send to the opposite cages with your karts.
  • Battlevirus mode in which “all the karts are together against a virus that must be killed in the middle of the track“.

Enough to have a good time with friends or family, as many modes can be played cooperatively.
