Plex continues to diversify and launches Plex Arcade, a subscription-based retro game streaming service, starting at $ 4.99 per month. There are no recent titles on Plex Arcade, but rather a large collection of Atari games, such as Centipede, Lunar Lander or Adventure.
Besides being a reference media center, Plex has focused for several years on diversifying its services. In 2019, Plex has even become a streaming platform similar to Netflix or Disney +, offering thousands of movies, series, television shows, documentaries, all for free. In fact, the service relies entirely on the delivery of ads within the application.
And since the beginning of January 2020, it is possible to watch TV channels directly from the Plex interface, without going through third-party software. However, you must sign up for the Plex Pass to benefit from it, a subscription at € 4.99 per month. And this Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Plex announces the launch of Plex Arcade, a subscription-based retro game streaming service, from $ 4.99 per month.
Unlike a Stadiums or a Xbox Game Pass, you won’t find the latest AAA games on Plex Arcade. The service is committed to retrogames and offers in particular a collection of about thirty titles with the Atari seal. We find in particular editor’s classics like Aquaventure, Asteroids, Centipedes, Sky Raider or Adventures by Warren Robinett, a game that has recently been illustrated in the excellent Ready Player One by Steven Spielberg (this is the first game ever to contain a “Easter egg“, A secret hidden by the developer).
That’s not all, as Plex Arcade also supports ROM, and the management and customization of the catalog will be done directly from the service interface. According to Plex, the realization of this project was possible thanks to its partner Parsec, a company specialized in cloud games and game streaming.
As stated above, it will be possible to enjoy Plex Arcade for a monthly subscription of $ 4.99 per month. Plex Pass subscribers can benefit from a reduction, increasing the bill to € 2.99 per month. There is also a 7-day free trial period.
Please note that Plex Arcade servers require you to play on a Windows PC or a Mac, due to the technologies used by Parsec. In fact, the service will be inaccessible on Linux, Nvidia Shield while some games will not be available on iOS, Android, Android TV and Google Chrome. For optimal comfort, Plex recommends playing with a Xbox One or DualShock 4 controller.
