In the last two parts of our small series of articles on Dokomi 2022, we dare to take a look at the events, activities and highlights that await you at the Düsseldorf trade fair in Japan. In addition to games and cosplay, the so-called host club should not be missing as a special treat. In our Road to Dokomi Part 3, we explain what it’s all about and what other activities you can expect.
Host Club “Sweet Spices”
Under the catchy name Sweet Spice, Dokomi is once again launching an exclusive host club this year, which is based on popular Japanese models. Visitors can expect a wide range of entertainment here: more than 40 different hosts woo their guests with informal conversations, shows and, of course, small delicacies. As well as some hearty dishes, including some Japanese classics, there is also a wide selection of cocktails and (non-alcoholic) soft drinks. A provisional menu with the expected prices can already be found in the official facebook fan page.
Whether it’s fresh, chewy, sweet or spicy, there’s something for everyone here!

all about the games
Since the beginning, DoKomi has not only represented anime and manga, but more and more gamers roam the showrooms every year and indulge in their digital hobby. Appropriately enough, in 2022, of course, there will be plenty of rides and gaming stations waiting for fans to grab them. This sometimes culminates in large-scale eSport tournaments, which will be held at Dokomi again this year. In addition to a decent game of Overwatch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is back in action, while Pokémon trainers prefer to fight their rivalries in the Sword and Shield editions.
If you’re less interested in exciting PvP, you might be particularly interested in Germench’s Speedrun Station. There are numerous sprints for a wide variety of games, interviews with well-known racers, and plenty of background information on virtual sports. And who knows, maybe one or another world record will be broken on the weekend of June!
If that’s still not enough for you, just stop by the impressive DoKomi arcade. In the so-called Retro Wave Arcade there are countless arcade machines, console games and PC stations where you can play the history of classic video games in a relaxed atmosphere. Among them are not only hits from the 80s and 90s, like Megaman and Super Mario World, but also modern classics like Bloodstained coming to the screens.

Hey, is it carnival already?
Every year, tens of thousands of cosplayers tour the Düsseldorf trade fair, presenting their colorful and creative designs to a large audience. It is therefore not surprising that a large part of the program is also designed for cosplay lovers and a lot is offered to fans of the costume show. For example, DoKomi 2022 is organizing an internal cosplay contest for the first time, in which selected participants can present their creations on the big stage.
In addition to the show, various encounters for cosplayers are also planned. As part of the Cosplay Tables, shortlisted talents can, for example, reserve a booth and become exhibitors themselves for a short period of time. The Cosplay Area allows for short-term meet and greets, exchange with like-minded people, and the sale of one’s own creations. Visitors can expect a colorful and, above all, ever-changing potpourri of cosplay themes. You can find an overview of all participating cosplayers, including dates. here.
Last but not least, all the amateur photographers among you can of course look forward to some beautiful photo spots. Whether in the bustling ball pit or the sci-fi inspired Kurotoshiro Art Project, every session becomes a little highlight here. With the Neotokyo / Night City photo set, there’s also a big news this year: the backdrop is based on the afterlife of Cyberpunk 2077 and conveys a lot of sci-fi charm. With the RPD24, there is also a photo corner with a reference to Resident Evil at the beginning.
