Multiplayer space sandbox combines exploration, automation and interplanetary industry
Studio behind Northgard and Wartales expands portfolio with large-scale sci-fi title
French independent game developer Shiro Games is preparing to launch SpaceCraft, a multiplayer space sandbox title that blends exploration, industrial automation and interstellar commerce, as the company looks to build on the commercial success of earlier releases including Northgard and Wartales.
The game will enter PC Early Access through Steam on Thursday, June 11, 2026, following significant early consumer interest that has generated more than 300,000 wishlists ahead of launch.
Shiro Games, known for developing strategy and role-playing titles that have collectively sold millions of copies worldwide, is positioning SpaceCraft as an ambitious expansion into the science-fiction sandbox genre. The project combines large-scale space exploration mechanics with player-driven industrial systems and multiplayer interaction.
The launch comes at a time when demand for persistent multiplayer sandbox experiences continues to grow across the global gaming industry, particularly on PC platforms where Early Access development models remain a major driver of community engagement and revenue generation.
Game focuses on resource extraction and industrial expansion
Players tasked with building interplanetary corporations across star systems
In SpaceCraft, players are tasked with helping establish a new home for humanity by exploring planets, extracting resources and building industrial infrastructure across multiple worlds.
According to the release, players will be able to travel between planetary surfaces and space stations using “seamless, uninterrupted animations,” allowing for continuous movement through the game’s universe without traditional loading interruptions.
The game world will feature planets containing valuable resources that players can harvest by constructing extraction systems and transportation facilities. Those materials can then be used to develop industrial operations and expand corporate networks across star systems.
“Blast off into the endless expanse of space, and forge a new home for humanity among the stars,” the release states.
The title places a strong emphasis on automation and logistics management, systems that have become increasingly popular among players of large-scale simulation and strategy games. Industrial growth and resource optimization are expected to form a central part of long-term gameplay progression.
Multiplayer economy designed around trade, combat and cooperation
Customization systems aim to support player-driven competition
Alongside industrial development, SpaceCraft introduces multiplayer mechanics allowing players to trade, cooperate or compete for strategic resources and territory.
Players will be able to manufacture specialized ship components and design custom spacecraft suited to exploration, commerce or combat missions. The release indicates that ship customization will play a major role in adapting to different intergalactic objectives and economic opportunities.
“Trade, battle, or cooperate with other players to acquire resources, create specialized ship components, and custom-design the perfect vessel for the next intergalactic mission,” the company said.
The game’s economic systems are also built around corporate expansion and market competition. Players will be encouraged to scale production, meet growing demand and compete against rival organizations operating across the galaxy.
“Build a successful company, expand to meet growing demand, and beat the cosmic competition!” the release states.
Industry analysts have increasingly pointed to multiplayer sandbox games as a key growth segment within PC gaming, particularly titles that combine open-ended progression systems with persistent online economies. Games offering automation mechanics and collaborative resource management have also seen sustained player engagement over recent years.
Early Access launch reflects continued growth of community-driven development
Shiro Games leverages established audience ahead of release
The decision to release SpaceCraft through Steam Early Access aligns with a broader trend among independent developers using community feedback to refine large-scale multiplayer experiences after launch.
Early Access releases often allow developers to expand gameplay systems gradually while building long-term player communities and generating recurring engagement throughout development cycles.
Shiro Games enters the launch with an established reputation in the strategy and survival genres. Northgard, the studio’s Norse mythology-inspired real-time strategy title, and Wartales, its medieval open-world tactical RPG, both achieved strong commercial performance and built dedicated player communities internationally.
The company is now aiming to translate that audience momentum into the science-fiction market with SpaceCraft, which combines exploration, sandbox construction and multiplayer economic systems within a persistent space environment.
The game will become available on PC through Steam Early Access beginning June 11, with players currently able to request access keys ahead of launch.
