Elon Musk’s company SpaceX is reported to be launching rockets from the ocean soon. Musk also announced that the rocket could be launched from a spaceport deployed at sea next year. This is the first time that a private company will launch a rocket from the ocean.
SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft will also be sea tested to travel to Mars and the Moon. The launch at sea is primarily aimed at the starship experiments. It is believed that this extremely challenging experiment on land can be carried out at sea without worry.
Musk revealed on social media that Dimos, also known as Spaceport, is currently under construction. Musk said he hopes to be able to launch rockets from the sea by 2022. Musk tweeted that the Ocean Dimos spaceport was under construction next year.
The private space company reportedly bought two oil rigs last year to move launch pads and landing sites into the ocean for testing of the next-generation spacecraft for space travel. They are named after two red moons, Phobos and Dimos.
