FREE STYLE, Inc. has released OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek, the sequel to the 2019 supernatural tag game OBAKEIDORO!. The spooky-cute multiplayer title is now available globally through the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing its unique blend of Japanese folklore-inspired characters, teamwork, and fast-paced gameplay to players worldwide.
Developed under the direction of FREE STYLE’s Katsu Tanaka, OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek expands the original game with new modes, additional content, and enhanced multiplayer features designed for both casual players and fans of competitive party games.
A Supernatural Game of Monster Versus Human
Fast-Paced 8-Player Matches
OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek takes players into a mysterious world inspired by traditional Japanese legends, where monsters and humans compete in thrilling games of hide-and-seek.
Each match supports up to eight players online, with teams divided between one or two Monsters and three or six Humans. Games take place in quick three-minute rounds, creating intense moments where every decision matters.
The Monster team wins by capturing all Humans and sending them to jail before time expires. However, if even one Human survives until the end of the round, the Humans claim victory.
Unique Abilities Create Strategic Battles
Monsters Hunt While Humans Work Together
Monsters feature special abilities that can change the outcome of each match. Their skills include moving through walls, increased speed, and powerful capture attacks, allowing players to create different strategies during battles.
Humans must rely on teamwork and quick thinking to escape. Players can jump between floors, rescue captured teammates, and use the Lantern item to temporarily stun Monsters and create opportunities to escape.
Even after being captured, players are not completely out of the game. Teammates can attempt rescue missions by breaking others out of jail, although careless rescues can turn into traps if Monsters are waiting nearby.
Online and Local Multiplayer Options
Play With Friends or Compete Worldwide
The game supports both online and local multiplayer for up to eight players, making it suitable for group sessions with friends and family.
A Custom Rules mode allows players to adjust match settings, including the Monster-to-Human ratio and time limits. Nintendo Switch 2 users can also take advantage of the Game Share feature, allowing players without their own copy of the game to join multiplayer sessions.
New Character DLC Bundle Available at Launch
Alongside the main game release, FREE STYLE has launched the first Character DLC Bundle for OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek.
The DLC includes:
- Ponkichi (Ninja) with a ninja-inspired outfit
- Substitute Lantern
- New Monster: Gasha
The Character DLC Bundle launched on August 6, 2026, and is available for $9.99 USD.
Limited-Time Event and Future Updates Planned
The first seasonal event, “Ghouligan’s Pranks Underway!”, will arrive in Quick Match on August 13, 2026.
During the event, Monsters and Humans will switch roles, creating a special gameplay experience for a limited time. The event runs from August 13 at 12:00 AM PDT through August 30 at 8:00 AM PDT.
The development team also confirmed plans for additional limited-time maps and events, including a special Halloween-themed event scheduled for October.
