Although we can rarely find classic BlackBerry phones with physical keys today, the company behind the devices is finally signaling the end of their story.

However, it is not much to find a classic BlackBerry phone in use today, yet surprisingly these devices were still supported. However, this is now the end (too): it will go into effect a previous BlackBerry ad, which establishes that support for these instruments will end on January 4, 2022.

“Legacy features for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier versions, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. From that date, devices that run these services and software Legacy will not work reliably with either your carrier or your Wi-Fi connection, “warns BlackBerry.

This means that the phones in question may lose even their most important functions, such as making calls (including the emergency call) or sending SMS. The change also affects the email addresses that BlackBerry stores, so customers using the service will need to switch to a new email provider. BlackBerry originally announced this decision in September 2020, and with a much later date of January 4, 2022, it actually wanted to express its appreciation to its customers.

There have been attempts to run older BlackBerry phones without BlackBerry support, but they are not really good. Users can connect to the Internet through a mobile data connection or Wi-Fi, but many websites are reluctant to communicate with devices that do not have the latest security protocols. If you try this method, you will need a device that is running BlackBerry OS 7.1, as those that are running BlackBerry 10 are too dependent on BlackBerry features.
