Terranigma Returns With January 2027 Release, New Arranged Mode and Gaia Collector’s Edition

Date:

Classic action RPG Terranigma is returning more than three decades after its original release, with Clear River Games confirming a January 14, 2027 launch for modern consoles and PC. The revived version will introduce an Arranged Mode, quality-of-life upgrades and several physical editions, while attendees at Tokyo Game Show 2026 will be among the first members of the public to play it.

Terranigma Gets January 2027 Release Date

Clear River Games announced that Terranigma will launch digitally and physically on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC on January 14, 2027.

The action RPG originally debuted in 1995 during the final years of the 16-bit console era. Developed by Quintet, the title became known for combining traditional RPG progression with real-time action combat, distinctive pixel artwork and an ambitious story centered on the restoration of the world.

The new release marks the first re-release of the game since its original launch.

Ahead of the January debut, Terranigma is playable at Tokyo Game Show from September 17 through September 21 in Hall 6, booth N-04, within the PLAION area inside the Happinet booth.

The Tokyo Game Show demo supports English and Japanese. The retail release will additionally support French, German and Spanish.

New Arranged Mode Updates the Classic Experience

One of the most significant additions is the new Arranged Mode, designed to make the original adventure more accessible while retaining its core gameplay.

Magic, Navigation and Saving Receive Changes

Arranged Mode increases magic damage and introduces a mini-map intended to make navigating the game world easier. Players will also be able to save their progress wherever they choose rather than relying solely on the original game’s save structure.

Clear River Games is adding several other modern convenience features, including a Quick Magic Button, Item Hot-Swap, customizable backgrounds using high-resolution artwork and remappable controls.

A rewind function will also be available, alongside a music player and museum containing material connected to the game.

Players who want an experience closer to the original presentation can use a CRT filter and select from multiple aspect ratios designed to reproduce the visual style associated with the 1995 release.

Terranigma Brings Ark’s Journey to Modern Platforms

The story follows Ark, a mischievous young resident of Crysta, a village located on the Darkside of a hollow Earth. The game’s world is divided between the external Lightside and internal Darkside.

After Ark opens a forbidden door, his actions trigger events that ultimately send him beyond his isolated home and place him at the center of a journey that transforms the world.

The game’s characters were designed by manga artist Kamui Fujiwara and presented through detailed pixel art. Combat gives players direct control over Ark and his spear, allowing him to perform thrust attacks, jumps, dashes and other maneuvers.

Standard, SteelBook and Gaia Editions Announced

Digital versions of Terranigma will be offered for PC through Steam and GOG, while console players will have access to both digital and physical releases.

The Standard Edition is priced at $39.99 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version costs $44.99.

A limited Foiled Standard Edition featuring a special foil cover will carry the same respective prices and will be sold through the Clear River Games and Limited Run Games online stores.

The SteelBook Edition is priced at $64.99 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2.

Gaia Edition Includes Collectibles and 200-Page Art Book

At $199.99, the Gaia Edition is the premium physical package. It includes the physical game and contents from the SteelBook Edition along with a vinyl Yomi figurine.

The package also contains a replica of Pandora’s Box equipped with a music box that plays “Elle’s Theme” and includes space for the Yomi figurine.

Additional collectibles include a 200-page art book, an enamel pixel pin depicting protagonist Ark, a selection of music on an original soundtrack CD and a cotton canvas world map measuring approximately 16 by 21 inches.

Pre-Orders Open Ahead of January Launch

Physical pre-orders are now open for the announced editions, giving longtime fans several options ahead of the game’s return.

With the addition of Arranged Mode, modern convenience features and display options designed to preserve its original presentation, Terranigma is being adapted for contemporary hardware while retaining the gameplay, artwork and world that defined its 1995 release.

Terranigma is scheduled to launch January 14, 2027, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC.
