Windows 11 vs Windows 10:

Windows 11 vs Windows 10: which is better?

Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft’s desktop operating system, will be released on October 5.

The update is free for Windows 10 PCs that are compatible with Windows 11. Microsoft will release an updated version of its PC Health Check application prior to launch so that users can see if their PC meets the system requirements to run Windows 11.

Most Windows 10 third-party applications should work with Windows 11. Windows 10 applications run without apparent problems on Windows 11 beta and developer versions. They should behave the same on the public version of the new system. operational.

Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 until October 14, 2025. However, it is unclear how many Windows 10 updates Microsoft will release during that time.

Since support for Windows 10 won’t be ending anytime soon, it’s not urgent for users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as it’s available, unless they want to take advantage of some of its new features.

To help you decide if the update is right for you, here are some of the differences between Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Design

One of the main differences between Windows 11 and Windows 10 is in their design. Windows 11 offers a more Mac-like interface, with pastel colors, rounded corners for all windows, and a cleaner interface than its predecessor. Microsoft has simplified the user interface as much as possible to create a clean space to work and play.

Start menu / taskbar

Microsoft has moved the Start menu along with the taskbar to the center of the screen; however, users can move them to the left like in Windows 10 if they wish.

Windows 11 also does not support live tiles. Active tiles display useful information that users can view without opening the corresponding applications. For example, the live weather mosaic shows the forecast. Windows 10 is the best solution for users who want to see information in Start menus at a glance.

Snap design

Another new feature in Windows 11 is Snap Layouts. This allows users to organize their applications and windows more efficiently by grouping them, similar to how users can group applications on Android and iOS. Snap Layouts provides several layout options for arranging different windows on the screen. Snap is a productivity feature that allows users to logically organize applications and other windows on the screen.

The Snap feature in Windows 10 requires users to arrange windows manually by hovering the mouse to the left or right of the screen or using key combinations. However, Snap Layouts allows users to automatically arrange open windows as they wish. For example, users can arrange open windows as squares. The snap layout options vary depending on the size of the user’s screen. Snap Groups allow users to quickly return to their Snap designs when hovering over the taskbar.

Microsoft Store

Microsoft has redesigned the Microsoft Store in Windows 11, making it easier for users to find apps and movies, for example. Microsoft Store will allow users to download all Windows applications on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Since Microsoft Store is a universal Windows platform app, it will be updated independently of Windows 11. The new Microsoft Store app will be available to all Windows 10 and 11 users this fall.

Android app

The Microsoft Store will also include Android applications hosted on the Amazon App Store. Customers can use Android apps on Windows 10 with the Your Phone app that Microsoft released last year. By bringing Android applications to Windows 11, Microsoft is meeting user demand to run smartphone applications on their desktops. However, this feature will be delayed until 2022, so there is no Disney + through the app for now, sorry.

Teams (moving from Skype)

Microsoft has replaced the Skype-based Windows 10 Meet Now feature with Teams integration on the Windows 11 taskbar. This will make it easier for users to access the communications platform.

Microsoft is replacing Skype with the Teams chat feature. This is an effort to encourage more Teams users to use the consumer features of the app and possibly use Teams outside of work. Microsoft retired Skype for Business Online on July 31.

Users can still download Skype for Windows and Skype for Mobile for free from the Microsoft Store.

Touch / tablet mode

Microsoft is removing the tablet mode included in Windows 10 from Windows 11. Tablet mode in Windows 10 makes users’ PCs easier to use when using their devices as tablets. However, Windows 11 behaves more like an iPad. This means that when users switch from their PCs to tablets, they will receive an optimized touch experience.

Windows 11 will also have larger touch targets and visual cues so users can easily resize and move windows.

Virtual desks

Although Windows 10 included the Task View feature and allowed users to create multiple virtual desktops, the options were limited. Windows 11 users will be able to set up virtual desktops just like they do with Macs. Users can switch between multiple desktops at the same time for work, school, play, and personal use. All in a safe and secure environment. Speaking of security, one of the options is to install a free antivirus program for Windows. See the link above for more information.

Game updates

PC gaming is also expected to get better with Windows 11. However, Microsoft has said that DirectStorage, one of the new PC gaming features, will also be compatible with Windows 10. DirectStorage takes advantage of modern storage hardware in PCs from games to simplify the way the game is played. the data is processed. Auto HDR (high dynamic range) will also be built into Windows 11, which should improve colors in many games.

When a user is playing games on an HDR monitor, Auto HDR improves the color gamut in many DirectX 11 and newer games, even in games where HDR settings have not been implemented. Xbox Game Pass will also be included in Windows 11.

Performance improvements

Microsoft said the new operating system will include performance improvements, including faster logins with Windows Hello, faster web browsing, and faster waking up from sleep. Windows Hello is a biometric-based technology that enables Windows 10 users to authenticate secure access to their devices, applications, and networks with iris scans, facial recognition, or fingerprints.

Microsoft also said that Windows updates, which will run in the background, will be 40% smaller, so they will take less time to download and install. The new operating system will help users extend the battery life of their laptops.
