CITY OF MEXICO (apro) .- Dozens of members of feminist collectives marched this Friday in the Historical Center to demand justice for the feminicide of Victoria Salazar, in Tulum, Quintana Roo; Upon arriving at the National Palace, they staged a confrontation with the police, with a balance of 30 uniformed women and two civilians injured.
According to the Government Secretariat (SecGob), there were 400 people, 60 of them hooded, but at one point during the march men, also hooded, joined who attacked police officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).
The demonstration started at around 2:30 p.m. from the Monument to the Revolution and, as it passed through Paseo de la Reforma, the protesters – some of them with their faces covered – began to destroy the urban furniture, including the stations of the Metrobs.
The women went home to Quintana Roo, in the Roma neighborhood, where they protested against the police of that entity for having caused the death of the Salvadoran woman, after arresting her last week. There they tried to throw down the metal fences that protect the property.
According to SecGob, on their way through the Column of Independence they set fire to a piata that contained an aerosol can, which did not explode, otherwise it would have hurt the group of women who were nearby; They destroyed the Metrobs and urban furniture, while at the headquarters of the Quintana Roo representation in Mexico City, located on Avenida lvaro Obregn 161, there were pints and attempts to tear down mud walls, in addition to the use of firecrackers.
Later they returned to Reforma to go to the capital’s Zcalo. In their wake they painted and destroyed buildings and urban furniture. When they arrived in front of the National Palace, they tried to remove the fences – small and thin – placed to prevent them from approaching the premises of the Presidency of the Republic.
Behind them were dozens of police officers from the Secretariat for Citizen Security (SSC) who tried to block their way with their shields. It was when the rampage began in which women kicked and hit police shields with hammers and other objects.
They exploded firecrackers, burned shields and attacked elements of the female police Athena on different occasions, added the Secretary.
To disperse them, the members of the Athena Women’s Group used fire extinguisher gases against them. According to the SSC, 720 policemen were mobilized to carry out the contingent prosecution operation.
Around 6:00 p.m., the SSC reported that at least 30 policewomen and two civilians were injured, but they were treated by emergency personnel. However, three uniformed women required transfer to a hospital due to symptoms of heat stroke.
During the march, personnel from the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City (CDHCDMX) and the Marabunta Peace Humanitarian Brigade were present, as well as elements from the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC), in order to protect the safety of attendees and passersby.
