Culinary – KartausenBräu Gaming: new equipment, proven brewing art

The beer has been brewed at Kartause Gaming since 2008. Brewmaster Harald Tiefenbacher brought in Sebastian Dorrer as a reinforcement at the end of 2019. After Tiefenbacher left in April this year to go freelance, Dorrer filled the bottles with the noble brew together with his apprentice David Schnabl. Kartausenbräu labels have recently been adorned with an additional logo, namely that of the Austrian private brewery association. As is well known, it was founded in the fall of the previous year and currently has around 30 members, including the Gaminger brewery. “The logo guarantees maximum added value in its own country and stands for variety-filled enjoyment and authentic Austrian beer culture,” explains Dorrer, who is striving for the AMA quality seal as his next goal. This ensures that all the ingredients for the infusion come from the region. “We should definitely be ready by the end of next year,” says Dorrer.

Utilization at the brewery, which recently opened and underwent renovations in 2019, is currently below 100 percent. “The reason for this is the lack of exports to Italy and the USA due to high transport costs,” explains the 31-year-old brewmaster, who spent his apprenticeship at the Haselbräu brewery in Münichreith (Melk district). ). For him, the objective is clear: regional beer art, better with prizes. And so six of his beers have already been submitted to the “Beer Star,” “and the state championships will be held in the fall,” adds Dorrer.
