Winter Whiskers Revealed as Cozy Snow-Cleaning Game Heads to Steam

Date:

Indie Studio Mango Leaf Games Introduces Relaxing Winter-Themed Cleaning Adventure

A new indie game focused on snow clearing, community restoration, and cozy winter atmosphere is heading to PC later this year.

Mango Leaf Games officially revealed Winter Whiskers on Thursday, describing the project as a relaxing cleaning simulation set in a snow-covered harbor town preparing for its annual Winter Festival.

The game stars a small stoat tasked with clearing massive snowfall after an unexpected blizzard disrupts daily life across the community.

The announcement comes as cozy simulation games continue growing in popularity among U.S. players looking for slower-paced experiences centered on creativity, relaxation, and exploration rather than combat-heavy gameplay.

Snow-Clearing Gameplay Focuses on Relaxation and Satisfaction

In Winter Whiskers, players use a specialized snow vacuum to clear roads, sidewalks, storefronts, and frozen pathways throughout Winterlight Harbor.

As players remove snow, they also restore the town’s steam-powered infrastructure, which helps melt ice, reactivate power systems, and gradually return warmth to the community.

The game combines environmental cleanup mechanics with puzzle-solving and light progression systems as players unlock new tools and ways to access blocked areas.

According to the developers, the project was inspired by peaceful winter mornings and the satisfying feeling of interacting with snow-filled environments.

“For us, the appeal of Winter Whiskers is the feeling it creates,” said Axie Lotl, art director at Mango Leaf Games. “It’s inspired by our love for peaceful snowy mornings, when everything feels quiet, slow, and a little magical.”

Lotl added that the studio wanted players to enjoy the calming sensation of carving clean paths through snow and watching frozen environments gradually come back to life.

Restoring the Town Becomes the Core Objective

Steam-Powered Systems Drive Progression

At the center of the game’s mechanics is Winterlight Harbor’s damaged steam network.

Players collect snow and feed it into furnaces that generate steam power for the town. Restoring the system activates street lighting, powers homes, and melts larger snow drifts blocking important routes.

The gradual transformation of the town serves as both a gameplay mechanic and a visual reward system, with neighborhoods becoming warmer and more active as cleanup progresses.

The approach reflects a broader trend in cozy gaming, where repetitive real-world tasks such as cleaning, organizing, farming, or crafting are transformed into calming gameplay loops designed to reduce stress and encourage exploration.

Helping Residents Prepare for the Winter Festival

In addition to clearing snow, players assist townspeople with smaller community tasks disrupted by the storm.

Objectives include clearing storefronts, helping with deliveries, and preparing public spaces ahead of the Winter Festival.

As progress continues, the festival itself becomes a celebration of the player’s work, featuring seasonal activities, hot cocoa gatherings, and community events.

The game emphasizes warmth, cooperation, and community rebuilding rather than competition or survival mechanics.

Cozy Games Continue Expanding in the U.S. Market

The reveal of Winter Whiskers arrives during a period of strong growth for the cozy gaming genre in North America.

Games centered on relaxation, light simulation mechanics, and emotionally comforting environments have gained increasing mainstream attention in recent years, especially among players seeking alternatives to high-pressure multiplayer titles and action-heavy releases.

Platforms such as Steam have seen growing interest in games featuring farming, cleaning, decorating, cooking, and community-building mechanics, often paired with stylized art and calming soundtracks.

The popularity of titles like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and other life-simulation games has helped establish a large audience for slower-paced indie experiences focused on atmosphere and creativity.

Demo Planned for Later This Year

Mango Leaf Games confirmed that Winter Whiskers will participate in the Cozy & Family Friendly Games Celebration beginning May 28.

Players can currently wishlist the game on Steam and will be notified when a public demo becomes available later this year.

The studio also released an announcement trailer alongside the reveal, showcasing snowy environments, steam-powered machinery, and the game’s central snow-clearing mechanics.

Small Indie Studio Continues Expanding Its Projects

Founded in 2024, Mango Leaf Games was created by developers Axie and Leaf, who previously released Kokoro Kitchen.

The studio says its focus remains creating games inspired by themes and genres the team personally enjoys, with an emphasis on cozy and approachable gameplay experiences.

With its winter setting, gentle progression systems, and emphasis on community restoration, Winter Whiskers appears positioned to appeal to players looking for a relaxing seasonal adventure built around satisfying cleanup mechanics and small-town charm.
