Mythmon: Mythic Monsters, a tactical monster-taming hack-and-slash auto-battler from developer MachHabaneroGames, is set to launch on PC via Steam on Sept. 7, 2026, bringing team-building, strategic positioning and equipment management together in a campaign against the Demon Lord.
Published by Kodansha Creators’ Lab, the upcoming indie title challenges players to assemble teams of distinctive creatures known as Mythmon. While battles emphasize automated action, decisions made before combat — including team composition, formation and equipment strategy — are designed to play a major role in determining the outcome.
Mythmon: Mythic Monsters Features a 30-Creature Roster
Players will be able to recruit from a roster of 30 Mythmon, selecting five creatures to create their active squad.
Each species comes with its own strengths and can be developed around signature talents. Players can also evolve abilities using more than 10 elemental status effects, including fire, ice and wind, opening opportunities to build teams around different combinations and tactical approaches.
Rather than relying solely on direct control during combat, Mythmon: Mythic Monsters places significant emphasis on preparing a squad before entering battle.
Battle Positions Shape Each Team’s Strategy
Formation management divides Mythmon into different battlefield roles.
Ranged specialists can be positioned in the Backline, where they can attack while receiving protection from tougher allies. Tanks and aggressive warriors can occupy the Frontline, absorbing damage and drawing enemy attention away from teammates with lower health.
The Mid-Guard position is intended for more versatile Mythmon, allowing players to develop flexible formations that can adapt to different opponents.
These positioning decisions combine with each creature’s powers and instincts once combat begins, making squad construction an important part of the game’s tactical system.
Enemy Equipment Creates Risk-and-Reward Decisions
Equipment management adds another strategic element. Before a battle begins, players can examine their opponents’ loadouts and decide how aggressively they want to approach the encounter.
A commander might attempt to seize powerful enemy equipment and secure potentially battle-changing items. Alternatively, players can adopt a more defensive approach and attack only when favourable opportunities appear.
The system carries consequences for defeat. Losing a battle means surrendering valuable equipment to the Demon Lord’s forces, potentially making enemy ranks more powerful in future encounters.
That mechanic creates a risk-and-reward dynamic in which pursuing stronger gear could improve a squad while unsuccessful battles may strengthen the opposition.
Endgame Dungeons Extend the Challenge
Defeating the Demon Lord will not mark the end of the available combat challenges.
Players who complete the main objective will unlock endgame dungeons designed to test advanced team-building and formation strategies. These encounters feature continuous waves of stronger enemies, requiring commanders to refine their pre-battle formations and make greater use of the game’s tactical systems.
The additional content is intended to provide experienced players with a reason to continue developing their Mythmon teams after completing the primary campaign.
English and Japanese Language Support Confirmed
Mythmon: Mythic Monsters will launch for PC through Steam on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, with both English and Japanese language options.
The game is being developed by MachHabaneroGames and published by Kodansha Creators’ Lab, the gaming division established by Japanese publishing company Kodansha in 2021.
Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab operates under the motto “Everything for the creator,” with a focus on supporting emerging developers and helping independent creators bring their projects to broader audiences.
With a 30-creature roster, five-member squads, elemental effects and formation-based combat, Mythmon: Mythic Monsters is positioning its automated battles around decisions made before combat begins. Its Sept. 7 release will give PC players the opportunity to test those systems as they build their own Mythmon squad and challenge the Demon Lord’s forces.
