Music-themed action RPG AereA is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing the 2017 title to modern consoles with updated gameplay. Publisher and developer SOEDESCO has rebalanced several parts of the adventure, including character progression, enemy encounters and boss battles.
AereA Launches on Modern Consoles
Originally released in 2017, AereA returned to consoles on Sept. 3, 2026. The new release introduces the fantasy action RPG to Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players while retaining the musical theme and cooperative gameplay of the original.
The adventure takes place in Aezir, a shattered world made up of floating islands. Players become one of the disciples of Great Maestro Guido and are tasked with recovering nine primordial instruments.
Finding the instruments is essential to restoring Aezir, but the journey requires players to explore multiple environments filled with enemies, puzzles, secrets and major boss encounters.
Music Shapes AereA’s Fantasy World
Music is incorporated throughout AereA, influencing its world, characters and enemy designs.
Nine Instrument-Inspired Bosses Await Players
The game’s nine major bosses take inspiration from musical instruments, reinforcing the central theme as players progress through Aezir.
Exploration takes place across a series of hand-drawn floating islands. Along the way, players encounter musical mysteries, environmental puzzles and hidden areas while searching for the primordial instruments.
The game offers four playable heroes, with each character providing a different set of abilities and a distinct playstyle. Players can select a hero based on how they prefer to approach exploration and combat.
Gameplay Rebalanced for PS5, Xbox and Switch
The modern console edition includes several adjustments designed to refine the original experience.
SOEDESCO has rebalanced character progression, enemy encounters and boss battles. The changes are intended to create a smoother progression curve while also making combat more challenging throughout the adventure.
The underlying action RPG structure remains intact, combining exploration, character development, puzzles and real-time battles.
Local Co-Op Supports Up to Four Players
AereA also includes local cooperative multiplayer for up to four players.
Four Heroes Offer Different Abilities
The four-character roster allows groups to combine different abilities and playstyles while exploring Aezir. Local co-op gives players the option to experience the adventure together on the same system rather than limiting the campaign to solo play.
The cooperative element complements the game’s party-oriented character selection, particularly during battles and exploration across its floating environments.
