Box Knight Launches on Steam August 25, Bringing Office-Themed Roguelike Action to PC

Date:

Australian Indie Studio Reveals Release Date During Convergence Showcase

Australian developer We Made A Thing Studios has announced that Box Knight, its debut video game project, will launch on Steam on August 25, 2026. The release date was unveiled during the Convergence Showcase alongside a new trailer highlighting the game’s fast-paced combat, comic-book-inspired visuals, and unconventional office-themed fantasy setting.

Blending elements of roguelike progression, side-scrolling brawler action, and role-playing mechanics, Box Knight places players in a workplace transformed into a dangerous battleground where ordinary employees become unlikely heroes.

An Office Workplace Turned Into a Fantasy Battlefield

From Employee to Hero After Hours

The story of Box Knight centers on a workplace consumed by corruption and chaos.

Employees who were once ordinary office workers have been transformed into monstrous creatures, leaving the company in desperate need of a hero. Players step into the role of an office employee who undergoes a transformation every Friday evening, becoming the Box Knight—a cardboard-armed defender tasked with reclaiming the workplace.

Armed with improvised cardboard weapons and special abilities, players battle through increasingly dangerous office departments, from cubicles and conference rooms to executive suites and boardrooms.

The ultimate objective is to reach the top floor and confront the CEO responsible for the organization’s downfall.

Side-Scrolling Combat With Strategic Depth

More Than a Traditional Beat ‘Em Up

While Box Knight draws inspiration from classic side-scrolling brawlers, the combat system incorporates additional tactical elements.

Players must pay attention to enemy behaviors and attack patterns, as different opponents require different strategies. Some enemies are resistant to attacks from certain directions, while others demand specific weapon types or timing-based approaches.

Success depends on positioning, decision-making, and adapting to changing situations rather than simply overwhelming opponents with attacks.

This approach adds a layer of strategy to the game’s action-focused gameplay.

Roguelike Progression Encourages Multiple Runs

Permanent Upgrades and New Abilities

Like many modern roguelike games, Box Knight is designed around repeated playthroughs.

When players are defeated, they retain resources earned during previous runs. These resources can be used to unlock permanent upgrades, improve statistics, and gain access to new cardboard weapons and abilities.

Between levels, players also receive opportunities to enhance their character with additional powers and equipment, allowing for a variety of playstyles and character builds.

This progression system rewards persistence and experimentation while gradually increasing the player’s strength over time.

Couch Co-op Expands the Experience

Team Up Against Corporate Corruption

Although the current demo focuses on single-player gameplay, the full release will include local couch co-op support.

Two players can team up to tackle the office tower together, combining abilities and coordinating strategies to overcome increasingly difficult encounters.

The addition of cooperative play aims to enhance the game’s social appeal and provide an alternative way to experience the campaign.

Comic-Book Visuals Define the Game’s Identity

A Stylized Corporate Fantasy World

One of the most distinctive aspects of Box Knight is its visual presentation.

The game features a bold comic-book-inspired art style that transforms a familiar office environment into a surreal fantasy setting. Cubicles, desks, and corporate décor become part of a colorful battleground populated by bizarre enemies and exaggerated action sequences.

The visual approach complements the game’s humorous tone while helping differentiate it from traditional fantasy or sci-fi action titles.

Players can further personalize their experience through a variety of unlockable cosmetics, including helmets, uniforms, and weapon designs.

With its mix of roguelike progression, beat ’em up action, cooperative play, and workplace satire, Box Knight is preparing to make its debut when it arrives on Steam on August 25. The game represents the first interactive project from We Made A Thing Studios and offers a unique twist on both fantasy adventures and office life.
