I chatted with Simu Liu from Shang-Chi from Pokémon GO, Star Wars, and Google’s Pixel 6

Date:

Last Wednesday we learned that Canadian actor Simu Liu was now the spokesperson for the latest Google smartphones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. We spoke with him to discuss his habits with a mobile device, but also about Star Wars and his career.

Liu, who just played the lead role in Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings in MCU theaters, it will now collaborate with Google to create content for Canadian audiences. It will appear in a series of digital ads to promote the features of the Pixel 6, as well as add its own personal touch.

“Google knew that I was not going to be a ‘let me take a picture of the phone’ partner and that’s it,” says Liu. “I think Google wanted something authentic with that touch of humor that I like to wear every day,” he adds.

And this humorous side of the actor will be everywhere in Google ads. “We shot some commercials and I can’t wait to show them. First, they are an extension of my goofy humor, and second, because they show features of Pixel 6 that I am a huge fan of, ”said the 32-year-old actor.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are the first entirely Google devices, inside and out, thanks to the Google Tensor, its first system on a chip (SoC). They include features like Translate live, which combines Pixel speech recognition with Google translation capabilities, as well as Royal tone, which uses camera adjustment algorithms to help bring out the nuances and details in darker skin tones with greater precision. Two characteristics that Liu loves.

«Translate live, that’s 45+ languages translated, live, no Wi-Fi required. Royal tone allows you to adequately represent people of all skin tones. It is very meaningful to me; diversity is fundamental to my identity and my platform. It’s really wonderful and I can’t wait to present [ces fonctionnalités] with the world, ”says Liu.

Another interesting option of the Pixel 6 that Google proposes is Magic eraser, which allows you to delete things from our photos. For example: a silly gentleman in the background of your beautiful tourist photo. Simu Liu was asked if he should use Magic Eraser on an adorable duckling, a Jedi from Star Wars or the Toronto Raptors, which one would you choose, as you are particularly fond of these three topics on your social media. “I would use Magic Eraser on the Jedi!” And I’m a big fan of Star Wars, from the franchise, the series, the Jedi, but the older I get, the more I realize they are a bit selfish. And they are hypocrites. Leave the Jedi aside, I’ll take the ducklings and the Raptors any minute [dans mes photos]He laughs.

You also don’t have to be really good at photography in 2021 to share great photos. Either thanks to Magic eraser, or just the incredible quality of smart device cameras these days, anyone can improvise as an amateur photographer. “The phone does the work for you,” says Liu. “It’s quite amazing to walk around with a phone in your pocket that has such a powerful camera.”

But for Liu, a smartphone is not just a camera. He is, among other things, a heavy user of the WeChat mobile app, allowing him to stay in touch with his parents. When it comes to mobile games, it is Pokemon go that he especially likes. “I was a great Pokemon go one time. I’m a bit busy now, but would love to walk around and make inroads with people. However, I tried to keep my mobile games to a minimum, because I tend to get addicted! “, Explain. Imagine making a legendary raid with the one who plays Shang-Chi!

Simu Liu’s career is on the rise, making him an ideal partner for Google. The actor recently presented Saturday night live, a rite of passage for anyone everyone is talking about. He is also exploring the idea of making music, especially since he himself participated in the soundtrack of Shang-chi:

“I really would like to make music. Had a song on the soundtrack of Shang-chi, it was my first experience of this kind. Like I said, I tend to get hooked quickly, and got hooked on the feeling of being in a studio working on music. So maybe I will try it! “

Keep an eye out for announcements from Simu Liu and Google in the coming weeks on social media, it could be quite entertaining!
