Retro shooter fans in the United States will soon get access to two cult-favorite arcade titles from legendary Japanese developer CAVE. Publisher Clear River Games and developer City Connection announced that Muchi Muchi Pork! and PinkSweets Boosted will launch in North America and Europe on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
The collection bundles two classic vertical scrolling “bullet-hell” shooters into a single release, bringing fast-paced arcade action, colorful visuals, and notoriously difficult gameplay to modern consoles. Digital pre-orders are now open, while physical editions will arrive later in October.
CAVE’s Arcade Legacy Returns for Modern Consoles
For longtime shoot-’em-up fans, CAVE remains one of the most respected studios in the genre, known for high-intensity arcade games that reward precision, memorization, and fast reflexes. The upcoming bundle revives two titles that originally gained popularity in Japanese arcades during the mid-2000s.
Both games will be available digitally on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch for $39.99. Physical editions for both platforms are scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, priced at $54.99.
What Is Muchi Muchi Pork!?
A Chaotic Bullet-Hell Shooter With a Comedic Twist
Originally released in arcades in 2007, Muchi Muchi Pork! combines classic vertical shooter mechanics with exaggerated humor and cartoon-inspired visuals.
The game follows three heroes — Momo, Ikuo, and Rafute — after the villainous General Pork Fillet invades Butaduka City and transforms them into pig-girls. Players battle through five increasingly difficult stages aboard flying bikes known as “Ketta Machines.”
While the premise leans heavily into absurd comedy, the gameplay is built around the demanding mechanics that define CAVE shooters.
Medal Chaining and the “Lard Attack” System
Scoring in Muchi Muchi Pork! centers on collecting pig-head medals dropped by enemies. Successfully maintaining a medal chain boosts point values dramatically, while missing a medal resets the multiplier system.
The game also introduces a “Lard Attack” mechanic. Players collect parachuting pigs to fill a lard meter, which powers a stronger offensive attack at the cost of slower movement speed. Bomb attacks can additionally convert enemy bullets into collectible pigs, encouraging aggressive risk-reward gameplay.
The combination of fast movement, dense bullet patterns, and layered scoring systems makes the game particularly appealing to hardcore arcade fans and score-chasers.
PinkSweets Boosted Revives Another CAVE Favorite
A Spiritual Successor to Ibara
First released in Japanese arcades in 2006, PinkSweets is widely considered one of CAVE’s most difficult shooters. The game builds on systems introduced in Ibara while adding new defensive and strategic mechanics.
Players can choose from four ships, each equipped with two different shot configurations, before progressing through seven bullet-heavy stages.
Unlike many traditional shooters, PinkSweets dynamically adjusts its difficulty based on player performance. Skilled play can cause enemy attacks to become significantly more aggressive, creating an experience that constantly pushes players to adapt.
Defense and Strategy Play a Major Role
One of the game’s core mechanics is the Rose Cracker Shield, which protects ships from certain enemy attacks. The shield charges while players refrain from firing their primary weapon, encouraging careful timing instead of nonstop shooting.
Ships are also accompanied by “Rosehips,” support units that can be repositioned to block incoming attacks and create temporary defensive coverage during intense battles.
That emphasis on strategy, restraint, and survival has helped PinkSweets develop a strong reputation among dedicated shoot-’em-up communities over the years.
Physical Editions and Pre-Orders Detailed
Digital versions of Muchi Muchi Pork! & PinkSweets Boosted launch October 1, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Collectors looking for boxed editions will have to wait until October 29, when physical releases arrive for both platforms.
The release continues Clear River Games’ focus on bringing classic Japanese arcade titles and retro-inspired games to Western audiences, particularly for players interested in preserving physical game collections in an increasingly digital market.
A Strong Year for Retro Arcade Revivals
The release arrives during a period of renewed interest in retro arcade titles across the gaming industry. Modern console players have increasingly embraced remasters, compilations, and rereleases of classic Japanese shooters, especially on Nintendo Switch, which has become a popular platform for the genre.
For longtime CAVE fans and newcomers alike, Muchi Muchi Pork! & PinkSweets Boosted offers two challenging arcade experiences that remain highly regarded nearly two decades after their original debut.
