Pokémon GO Fest Heads to Copenhagen for First-Ever Scandinavian Event

Date:

As Pokémon GO approaches its 10th anniversary, the hit mobile game is expanding one of its largest live events into Scandinavia for the first time. Pokémon GO Fest 2026 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from June 12–14, turning the Danish capital into a citywide interactive gaming experience.

The event is being organized in partnership with Wonderful Copenhagen, the official tourism organization for Denmark’s Capital Region, and marks Copenhagen’s debut as one of Pokémon GO’s flagship global festival destinations alongside Tokyo and Chicago.

Copenhagen Becomes a Global Stop for Pokémon GO Fest 2026

Pokémon GO Fest has become one of the most recognizable live events in mobile gaming, drawing players from around the world to explore cities through augmented reality gameplay.

For the 2026 edition, Copenhagen joins the international lineup as part of the game’s decade-long anniversary celebration. Organizers say the event will extend beyond a traditional festival setup by integrating gameplay throughout the city’s neighborhoods, landmarks and public spaces.

At the center of the event will be Fælledparken, one of Copenhagen’s largest public parks, where attendees will find themed gameplay zones and interactive activities designed for Pokémon GO players, known as Trainers.

Citywide Gameplay Expands Beyond the Main Festival Grounds

Unlike many gaming conventions confined to indoor venues, Pokémon GO Fest encourages players to physically explore host cities, a format that has helped previous events generate significant tourism and local business activity.

In Copenhagen, special in-game routes developed with Wonderful Copenhagen will guide players through scenic neighborhoods and cultural landmarks on their way to Fælledparken.

The event will also include:

  • Special PokéStops and Gyms
  • Stamp Rally checkpoints
  • Themed in-game activities
  • Light physical branding throughout the city
  • Interactive exploration routes tied to real-world locations

The approach mirrors similar tourism-focused gaming collaborations increasingly seen across major global cities seeking to attract younger international travelers and esports audiences.

Organizers Highlight Community and Outdoor Exploration

Jack Wilcock, head of Pokémon GO marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Scopely, said Copenhagen’s design and atmosphere made it a natural fit for the event.

“Copenhagen is the perfect city to host Pokémon GO Fest 2026,” Wilcock said. “The city’s welcoming atmosphere, green spaces and innovative spirit align perfectly with the values of Pokémon GO.”

He added that the event is intended to bring together longtime players and newcomers through outdoor exploration and shared experiences.

Kit Lykketoft, director of congresses, events and sustainability at Wonderful Copenhagen, said the festival aligns closely with the city’s focus on accessibility, community engagement and public spaces.

“We are delighted to welcome Pokémon GO Fest 2026 to Copenhagen,” Lykketoft said. “This festival reflects the city’s core values of inclusivity, community and accessibility, offering a unique way to experience Copenhagen’s culture and neighborhoods through play.”

Pokémon GO Continues Global Expansion Ahead of 10-Year Anniversary

Originally launched in 2016, Pokémon GO became a global phenomenon by combining augmented reality technology with location-based gameplay. The app encouraged millions of players to explore parks, landmarks and city streets while capturing Pokémon characters in real-world environments.

A decade later, the game remains one of the most successful mobile titles in the world, particularly in markets such as the United States, Japan and Europe.

The annual Pokémon GO Fest events have evolved into large-scale tourism and entertainment experiences, often generating increased hotel bookings, restaurant traffic and local economic activity in host cities.

Chicago, one of the 2026 flagship locations, has previously hosted several major Pokémon GO gatherings in the U.S., drawing tens of thousands of attendees to public parks and downtown areas.

Scopely Expands Its Gaming Portfolio

The event also highlights the growing global presence of Scopely, the mobile gaming company behind Pokémon GO following its acquisition of Niantic’s games business.

Scopely, headquartered in the United States, operates several major gaming franchises, including MONOPOLY GO!, MARVEL Strike Force, Star Trek Fleet Command and Stumble Guys.

According to the company, its games have generated more than $15 billion in lifetime revenue globally.

Copenhagen Prepares for International Visitors

Wonderful Copenhagen said the festival is expected to attract both local attendees and international visitors, helping showcase the Danish capital’s neighborhoods, public transit system and outdoor culture to a global audience.

With Pokémon GO Fest making its Scandinavian debut, Copenhagen is positioning itself as a new destination for large-scale gaming and entertainment events as the mobile gaming industry continues to expand worldwide.
