Tele2 plans to invest 10 million euros in the latest generation mobile core network

Date:

The mobile telephony operator SIA “Tele2” plans to start modernizing the basic mobile communications network this year, investing some 10 million euros in them, LETA informed the company.

The company was informed that the core network modernization will use solutions from technology manufacturer Nokia, which will ensure excellent voice data transmission and call quality on the 4G and 5G network in the near future.

Valdis Vancovičs, Chairman of the Board of Tele2

“We are aware that at a time when many people work and study remotely, in addition to shopping and services being mostly available in the digital environment, the demand for mobile communications is particularly high. Last year, we already carried out several work on increasing network capacity, and development work will continue this year as well. To improve the performance of the 2G, 3G and 4G networks, the capacity of about 200 base stations will be increased and 40 new ones will be built, as well as an ambitious multi-year project to upgrade the core network with Nokia to improve its performance. “

Tele2 plans that the updated core network will support and enhance 4G and 5G operations, resulting in higher mobile internet speeds and lower latency or data latency for individual customers and businesses when using mobile internet.

Līga Krūmiņa, Technical Director of Tele2

“It just came to our knowledge then [modernizētais pamattīkls] it will allow the deployment of services in the mobile network to meet the requirements of the company or of a group of users, such as guaranteed data download speed, latency or simultaneous maintenance of many devices. In turn, the introduction of “edge computing” will mean the exchange of data as close as possible to the customer, thus ensuring data transmission very close to real time “.

In 2019, Tele2 had a turnover of 136,669 million euros, 4% more than a year earlier, but the company’s profit increased 2% to 31,519 million euros. The company was incorporated in November 1995 and has a share capital of 3,486 million euros. The sole owner of Tele2 is Sweden’s Tele2 Sverige Aktiebolag.
