Co-Op RC Car Adventure Opens Its Doors to Players Worldwide
Independent developer FireVolt has released the first public demo for WheelMates, a cooperative adventure game centered around tiny remote-controlled cars navigating the sprawling home of a missing scientist. The demo is now available on Steam and introduces players to a brand-new garage environment packed with puzzles, hidden routes, and interactive tools.
The release follows a limited playtest held earlier this year and marks the first time the demo has been made broadly accessible without registration or waiting lists.
New Garage Area Expands Exploration and Puzzle Solving
Players Can Unlock Tools and Discover Hidden Paths
In WheelMates, two players work together to guide miniature RC vehicles through an oversized household filled with secrets connected to an eccentric scientist who has mysteriously disappeared.
The public demo begins in the Kitchen area, where players learn the controls and experiment with early power-ups before moving into the newly opened Garage section. Designed as a larger and more open environment, the Garage introduces additional mechanics and traversal options aimed at encouraging teamwork and exploration.
Players can use gadgets such as a magnet grab tool and a rope swing system to solve environmental puzzles, uncover hidden rooms, and piece together clues about the scientist’s whereabouts.
The game places a strong emphasis on collaborative problem-solving rather than fast-paced competition. Unlike many co-op titles that rely on timers or combat-heavy action, WheelMates encourages players to progress at their own pace while searching for secrets and experimenting with the environment.
Local Split-Screen and Online Multiplayer Included
Updated Physics and Camera Improvements Added
The latest demo also expands multiplayer options by introducing split-screen local co-op alongside the game’s existing online play functionality. The addition is expected to appeal to players looking for couch co-op experiences, a format that continues to maintain a loyal audience in the U.S. gaming market despite the industry’s growing focus on online multiplayer.
According to FireVolt, the demo includes several gameplay improvements based on feedback gathered during the earlier playtest phase. Driving mechanics and physics have been reworked to create smoother handling and more intuitive controls.
Players can drift around tight corners, perform aerial stunts, and navigate obstacle-filled environments more fluidly than before. The update also introduces improved camera controls intended to make cooperative navigation easier during puzzle sequences and high-speed movement.
In addition, the demo now supports localization across 14 languages, broadening accessibility for international players ahead of the game’s full launch.
Growing Interest in Cooperative Indie Games
Focus on Shared Experiences Continues to Gain Popularity
The release of WheelMates arrives during a period of growing demand for cooperative indie games that emphasize communication and teamwork. Titles focused on shared exploration and puzzle-solving have gained traction among players seeking alternatives to competitive online shooters and large-scale live-service games.
FireVolt describes its approach as centered on creating “shared experiences” through cooperative gameplay systems that encourage players to work together organically.
The studio, operating independently, says it aims to develop co-op games that offer fresh mechanics and accessible gameplay for players of varying skill levels.
Full Release Planned for Multiple Platforms
The WheelMates demo is currently available for PC players through Steam. FireVolt confirmed that the full game is scheduled for release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Players interested in updates about development can follow the game through its official website, Discord community, and social media channels including X, TikTok, and YouTube.
As anticipation builds for the full launch, the public demo offers players an early opportunity to experience the game’s cooperative mechanics, environmental puzzles, and miniature-scale adventure firsthand.
