On Monday, a group of mayors came to La Moneda to deliver a letter to the Executive in which they demanded to take action on safety matter before the criminal acts of recent months.
The letter summoned the Executive to “Take urgent measures to face the security crisis that affects the country” and was signed by 12 councilors of the Metropolitan Region.
In response to this situation, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Gali, stated that “it cannot be that there are authorities that they can spend a morning going to leave a letter at the Palacio de La Moneda, but they cannot take the time to participate in a meeting ”.
“Or that they are tolerant of illegal trade, which contributes to the feeling of insecurity or even some of them boost the pardon that declares crimes unpunished that affect the sensation of citizen security ”, he added.
Along these lines, the Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Maria Jose Gomez, stated that he hopes that “Criticism is with adherence to the truth.”
“This letter has a political objective that seeks to generate a sensation, a perception, of what has been done in terms of security in these four years in the face of the change of command, ”Gómez alleged.
It also argued that the municipal authorities “claim that they have not been part of the prevention strategies in terms of security”, being that “There are several of the mayors who signed this letter who have not attended any meeting of the Tactical System of Police Operation (STOP) or just some ”.
“Only these 12 mayors who sign the letter have received more than $ 8 billion for prevention projects that we have developed together ”, he declared.
