LightSup! Heads to Tokyo Game Show 2026 Ahead of 2027 Release

Date:

LightSup!, a cooperative dungeon adventure from developer BugBlio Studio and publisher Red Dunes Games, will appear at Tokyo Game Show 2026 as development continues toward a planned first-quarter 2027 release. The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

Attendees will be able to find LightSup! in Hall 7 at Booth N03 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, where the development team will present the latest version of its couch co-op adventure.

LightSup! Returns to Tokyo Game Show With Major Refinements

Development on LightSup! began in 2023 around a central concept: a cooperative dungeon adventure in which a group of friends works together to restore light to a world trapped beneath an endless eclipse.

Following its appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2025, BugBlio Studio spent the past year testing and refining the game based on feedback. The studio said those changes have focused on pacing, user experience and quality-of-life improvements.

The story takes place in a world threatened by darkness and monsters. During training, a group of young adventurers discovers the cause of the eclipse and learns that the Altar of Light represents a critical defense against the growing danger.

The heroes eventually set out to uncover the truth behind the eclipse and restore hope to their world.

“We believe in storytelling that feels alive, brought to life through vibrant dialogue, thrilling gameplay, and unforgettable moments. Best experienced together, every adventure unfolds with friends by your side. Whether you’re here for deep mysteries or chaotic fun, a bright, bold world awaits you.” said Maythee Chauypoo, founder of BugBlio Studio.

Co-Op Gameplay Mixes Roguelite and Dungeon-Crawling Systems

LightSup! combines cooperative action with roguelite progression, dungeon crawling and survival mechanics. It supports one to four players, with solo play available for those who prefer to adventure alone.

However, much of the game’s design is centered on cooperative play. Dungeons, cards and enemy encounters have been developed around teamwork, with the experience changing depending on the number of players.

Blessings and Curses Change Each Run

A Blessings and Curses system introduces additional strategic choices during each expedition.

Blessings provide benefits to the entire team, including enhanced abilities while dashing or faster prayer speeds. Curses can offer stronger advantages but introduce penalties shared by the group.

One curse, for example, can activate friendly fire in exchange for improved loot, while another may introduce periodic elite enemies.

The system is intended to create a risk-versus-reward dynamic and increase replayability by forcing teams to decide how much danger they are willing to accept for additional power.

Players can also unlock Party and Character Upgrades, additional Blessings, Nightmare Challenges and new playable characters. Individual runs contribute to broader progression while revealing more of the game’s lore and developing relationships among its cast.

Ultimately, teams must reach the Eclipse Core and confront the force threatening the game’s world.

Environments Tell the Story of a World Without Light

BugBlio Studio is also using environmental storytelling to reveal the history of its locations.

The Living Forest initially appears peaceful and colorful, but ruins scattered throughout the area provide clues about an earlier civilization and what happened when the light disappeared.

The Ruined Castle offers a different atmosphere, with a more theatrical presentation and distinct encounters.

Smaller locations are designed to provide narrative details without relying entirely on dialogue or exposition. A blacksmith’s room, for example, does not contain a major gameplay mechanic but offers visual clues about how someone once lived there.

Characters Bring Different Personalities to the Adventure

Players will encounter and control a varied cast while exploring dungeons across the world.

Timid Tim is a nervous but caring character who finds courage when his friends are in danger. Fyvana is an ageless wanderer whose playful personality conceals a larger purpose, while Quill is a young adventurer confronting his fear of darkness.

Lala is characterized by her intelligence, direct personality and curiosity, while Meyer is a bard whose music helps guide the young heroes while reflecting his own struggles.

Together, the characters support a story centered on friendship, courage and perseverance.

LightSup! Targets Early 2027 Launch

Bangkok-based BugBlio Studio was founded in 2022 and is developing LightSup! as its debut title. The project has received support from Red Dunes Games, the Xbox Developer Acceleration Program and Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency.

Red Dunes Games, an independent developer and publisher based in Abu Dhabi, is publishing the title.

With its Tokyo Game Show 2026 appearance, LightSup! will offer another look at how its cooperative combat, roguelite progression and environmental storytelling have evolved. The game is currently targeting a first-quarter 2027 release across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
