Pop! Pachinko, a new single-player roguelike inspired by Japan’s pachinko machines and 1990s city pop aesthetics, is heading to PC this fall. Vancouver-based developer Pangolin Interactive will release the game on Steam on Sept. 17, 2026, for $12.99 in the United States.
Pop! Pachinko Puts a Roguelike Spin on the Classic Game
Rather than simply recreating traditional pachinko, Pop! Pachinko combines the unpredictable ball-dropping mechanics associated with the game with progression systems commonly found in modern roguelikes.
Players drop balls onto changing pachinko boards, where random effects and shifting layouts can influence each attempt. The objective is to build high scores and earn payouts that can be used to strengthen future runs.
Between rounds, players can purchase upgraded balls and charms that provide additional abilities and help improve their chances when confronting more difficult boards.
The system is designed around repeated runs, with players gradually developing combinations of upgrades that can generate larger scores, unlock new boards and change how subsequent rounds play.
Konbini Offers Power-Ups, Extra Chances and Music
Winnings can also be spent at an in-game konbini, modeled after the convenience stores commonly found across Japan.
The shop offers items intended to alter or extend a run, including additional ball credits and opportunities to replay the previous round. Players can also obtain new music tracks to expand the game’s city pop-inspired soundtrack.
Collectible Chibi Pops Reward Progression
Beyond the pachinko mechanics, Pop! Pachinko includes collectible characters called chibi pops.
The collectibles have different rarity levels and are awarded as players progress through the game, adding another long-term objective alongside high-score chasing and board advancement.
1990s City Pop Style Shapes the Game’s World
Pangolin Interactive is pairing its arcade-inspired gameplay with a neon-heavy presentation influenced by Japanese city pop culture and the aesthetics of the 1990s.
Vivid colors, music and dreamlike environments are intended to create a relaxed atmosphere around the game’s chance-driven mechanics. The developer describes the experience as easy to learn and designed for shorter pick-up-and-play sessions as well as extended runs.
The visual direction reflects developer Gordon Pang’s experiences while spending time in Japan.
“I was inspired by Japanese culture during my stay in Japan, and I distilled this experience into a game that combined gameplay and aesthetics that resonated with me,” said Pangolin Interactive Director Gordan Pang. “I hope players enjoy this roguelike twist on one of Japan’s most popular games!”
Power-Ups Make Each Pachinko Run Different
Randomness remains a major part of Pop! Pachinko, but players are given tools to influence their results.
Powered-up balls and charms can change the course of individual sessions, while combinations and upgrades can help players build larger point totals. Random board effects add another layer of unpredictability, meaning strategies may need to change from one run to another.
This approach places the game within the growing roguelike genre while retaining pachinko’s recognizable ball-and-board foundation.
The title also avoids presenting every attempt as an isolated arcade session. Progression, unlockable boards, collectibles, equipment and upgrades give players objectives that continue across multiple runs.
Pop! Pachinko Launches on Steam Sept. 17
Pop! Pachinko is the first title from Pangolin Interactive, an independent Vancouver studio founded by solo developer Gordon Pang. Pang previously worked in the mobile gaming industry before establishing the studio.
The game is scheduled to launch for PC through Steam on Sept. 17, 2026, priced at $12.99 in the United States.
By combining pachinko mechanics with roguelike progression, collectible characters and a distinctive city pop presentation, Pop! Pachinko aims to offer a modern interpretation of the familiar Japanese arcade game when it arrives on PC this September.
