The Second Reality Room: Unspoken Truths, a psychological mystery adventure from developer Shadow Glove and publisher FINE Co., Ltd., will enter Steam Early Access for PC on Oct. 9, 2026. The game will launch at an introductory price of $9.99 in the United States through Nov. 12 before increasing to $14.99.
Developed around themes of empathy, isolation and communication, the single-player adventure asks players to understand characters whose unusual behavior and elaborate personal realities conceal emotions they struggle to express.
Psychological Mystery Explores the Meaning Behind Chuunibyo
The game centers on the Japanese concept of “chuunibyo,” a term commonly associated with exaggerated fantasies, dramatic personas and self-created identities, particularly during adolescence.
Rather than treating those behaviors simply as eccentricities, The Second Reality Room explores the emotional conflicts that may exist beneath them. Its story focuses on the experience of feeling misunderstood, particularly in a social media era where communication can be constant while meaningful emotional connection remains difficult.
Players become the Director of The Second Reality Room, a consultation space visited by people experiencing chuunibyo. Each Visitor has a distinctive “Second Reality” that players must investigate to understand what the character is actually trying to communicate.
Talk, Mind Read and Translate Drive the Gameplay
Three central mechanics form the basis of the investigation.
“Talk” allows players to select conversation topics and identify clues hidden within a Visitor’s unusual statements. “Mind Read” takes players into the Visitor’s Second Reality, revealing experiences and perceptions that cannot easily be communicated through ordinary conversation.
“Translate” then requires players to combine collected information and determine the character’s underlying thoughts and true intentions.
Repeatedly misunderstanding a Visitor or making incorrect choices can cause the situation to deteriorate, adding consequences to the player’s interpretation of each character.
Early Access Includes Prologue Through Chapter 4
The Steam Early Access edition will contain the Prologue through Chapter 4, covering several Visitors and their individual stories.
Shadow Glove estimates that the initial version will provide approximately seven to nine hours of gameplay, depending on play style.
The completed game is expected to add Chapters 5 and 6 along with an Epilogue, increasing the estimated total playtime to approximately 12 to 14 hours.
Players who purchase the Early Access edition will receive the full version as a free update at no additional cost. The development team said it plans to use player feedback during Early Access to refine and improve the game.
A specific release date for the completed version has not yet been announced, although the full release is planned for 2026.
Introductory Price Runs Through November 12
The Early Access version will cost $9.99 in the U.S. through Nov. 12. Beginning Nov. 13, the regular price is scheduled to increase to $14.99.
The game will support Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese and is designed for one player.
The Second Reality Room is the second title from Shadow Glove, the small development team behind Yokai Landlord: Monster Mystery!. The new project continues the studio’s use of supernatural themes while placing greater emphasis on personal growth, understanding and emotional conflict.
Theme Song “Trans-Carte” Arrives Alongside Early Access
The full version of the game’s theme song, “Trans-Carte,” will also be released worldwide on music streaming and digital platforms on Oct. 9.
MURASAKI handled the lyrics, composition and arrangement, while HINAKO provided vocals. MURASAKI also composed the game’s background music, creating a pop-influenced soundscape with dark and fantastical elements.
HINAKO, whose work frequently incorporates similarly dark and fantasy-oriented themes, has released vocal performances online and appeared in live shows, including solo concerts in Tokyo.
Shikimi Leads Character Design and Illustrations
Character designs and illustrations were created by Shikimi, an illustrator known for a dark, fantastical and poetic visual style. Previous credits include character design work for Touken Ranbu, illustrations for the Otome no Hon-dana series and participation in the Eshi 100-nin Ten exhibition.
Together, the visual design, music and psychological mystery mechanics establish the distinctive atmosphere surrounding the Visitors and their Second Realities.
With its Oct. 9 Early Access launch, The Second Reality Room: Unspoken Truths will offer PC players its first four chapters while Shadow Glove continues development toward the complete 2026 release. The final version will expand the narrative with two additional chapters and an Epilogue, completing the game’s story about understanding the emotions hidden behind words and imagined worlds.
