Developed by NekoNeko Soft and written by acclaimed scenario writer Tomo Kataoka, the visual novel launched on Steam on July 10, 2026. Set during the summer of 1972, the game follows a high school student whose peaceful visit to his grandparents’ countryside home leads him into a mysterious legend involving a hidden shrine, forgotten memories, and a girl trapped by time.
The title is now available with a limited-time 10% launch discount and supports Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese languages.
A Summer Mystery Rooted in 1970s Japan
“Be Missed and Remembered: The Letter from Mayoiga” takes place in Japan’s Showa 47 era, a period often remembered for rapid social change and a strong connection to traditional rural life.
The story centers on Naofuyu Matsuda, a high school student who travels with his younger sister Risa to spend summer vacation at their grandparents’ countryside home.
During their stay, Naofuyu hears a local legend about the mysterious Mayoiga Shrine, a structure said to appear from the surface of a lake only during summer. Despite generations of rumors, no one has ever claimed to have seen or entered the shrine.
The legend resembles the traditional Japanese tale of Mayoiga, a mysterious house believed to appear only to those who are lost.
Local stories also warn of strange creatures called Susu that are said to inhabit the shrine.
Following clues from the old legend, Naofuyu begins searching for the hidden location. There, he discovers a lone girl who has spent countless years imprisoned as the final guardian of Mayoiga.
“…Have you remembered?”
The question begins a story where the past, present, and unresolved emotions become connected through a single summer.
Characters Bring the Mystery to Life
The visual novel features a cast of characters connected by the secrets surrounding Mayoiga.
Susu
Voiced by Hiroko Taguchi, Susu is described as a mysterious being living inside Mayoiga. Although villagers consider her a monster, she is portrayed as an ordinary girl within the shrine. A curse transforms her appearance when she leaves, and anyone who stays in Mayoiga eventually forgets their time there.
Despite her lonely existence, Susu has a shy personality and enjoys listening to late-night radio broadcasts.
Naofuyu Matsuda
Voiced by Takumi Noda, Naofuyu is a 22-year-old university student living in Tokyo. Logical and skeptical, he does not believe in supernatural stories. However, the village where the mystery unfolds holds personal meaning because his grandparents’ home was once located there.
Risa Matsuda
Voiced by Mirai Hiroe, Risa is Naofuyu’s 13-year-old younger sister. Curious and energetic, she lives with her brother in Tokyo and has a close relationship with him.
Wakako Karasuma
Voiced by Natsumi Yanase, Wakako is a 14-year-old caretaker of Mayoiga who comes from a family responsible for maintaining the village shrine.
Isuzu Kōkanji
Voiced by Toko Shirasaki, Isuzu is a 14-year-old member of the family responsible for overseeing the village shrine. Quiet and reserved, she occasionally surprises others with unexpected behavior.
Music Adds to the Game’s Emotional Atmosphere
The game features original theme songs performed by Japanese music artists.
The opening theme, “Rainy 1970’s,” is performed by KawaNa Nami. The song combines a nostalgic melody with emotional vocals designed to reflect the atmosphere of the story.
The ending theme, “Madoromi SKIP TOWN,” is performed by idol group Luce Twinkle Wink☆ and appears on the group’s upcoming single release, “Heartful☆Memories.”
The single is scheduled for release on September 16, 2026, with multiple editions available.
