Israel: Sirens warn of possible missile attack near nuclear reactor

Sirens sounded in southern Israel’s Abu Qrenat district near the Dimona nuclear reactor, the Israeli army said without providing further details.

A reporter from Reuters about 90 km from the place heard the sound of an explosion minutes before the army text message.

These siren alerts generally they are activated after rocket attacks. Israel Army Radio said the origin of the attack is preliminarily unknown.

As reported by Reuters, Abu Qrenat it is deeper within Israeli territory than the usual range of Palestinian militants’ rockets in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli media have said for weeks that air defenses in the Dimona area and the Red Sea port of Eilat were being reinforced as a precaution against a possible long-range missile or drone attack by forces backed by Iran.

Tensions are high between Israel and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program and a recent spike in sabotage attacks.
